Book Description

0325001316 978-0325001319 November 17, 1999
According to Sharon Draper, 1997 Teacher of the Year, teaching is a vocation, not a job, and those who teach need to be reminded of the importance of the work they do. That is exactly what Teaching from the Heart does-offering inspiration and encouragement for anyone who may have lost sight of the rewards of the profession.

Teaching from the Heart is neither a reference book nor a study guide; it is a book of gems to hold on to when a teacher's world seems to be nothing but rocks. It features uplifting essays, conversations, and poems that can provide a needed boost during a hurried lunch hour or between classes. The treatment is light, friendly, and understanding. It is the kind of book that a mentor teacher passes on to a student teacher, or a college professor assigns to his or her students as they begin their own teaching careers. It is the kind of book that will be cherished and shared by all teachers as well as anyone who has ever dreamed of becoming a teacher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!, March 26, 2000
This review is from: Teaching from the Heart: Reflections, Encouragement, and Inspiration (Paperback)
This book is wonderful. It's great for encouragement both to the veteran teacher and inspiration for the beginning teacher. The chapter titled "Candles" is a must read for all teachers who are beginning to wonder why they teach. This would make a great gift for anyone involved in education.

Ok, so I browsed this book in the library, but I just can't wait to get one of my own! I met Sharon Draper recently and as a student teacher she offered me the best advice I have gotten so far. "Don't let anyone talk you out of being a teacher!" I have read a lot of her young adult literature, and I just love her. Meeting her only cemented the fact that she truely deserved the title of National Teacher of the Year.

Teaching from the Heart is a wonderful book. I originally discovered this jewel at my local library. I began to read it and decided it was a must have. I also purchased copies for some close friends who just received their bachelors degree to teach. This book is very inspiring. It will definitely encourage your heart and rejuvenate you, I love it!
