Helpful, but dry,

This review is from: Teaching the Infant with Down Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals (Paperback)
This book comes highly recommended, and in fact provides a comprehensive curriculum for children age 0 - 24 months with DS with much helpful advice. However, the format is difficult to follow -- with a list of several unstructured activities at the beginning of each area and followed by a list of structured activities to help children reach goals, it seems like life is nothing but therapy! I recommend that if readers use this resource that they couple it with a good resource on play or activity based intervention, especially if you are a professional. Parents would probably do better with the Woodbine series (Fine, Gross, and Communication Skills for Children with Down Syndrome).

Hi everyone,
This book is THE BEST BOOK ON THE MARKET ON THIS SUBJECT. It provides parents with information that they really need, hands on and informative. I have a child with down syndrome, she is 12 now. I am pretty confident that this book is the reason that she is the way she is today. The book takes all of the developmental milestones and breaks them down into little pieces to tell you what your baby should be doing in any given month (compared to typical babies) and then,,,,,here is the good part.... then, the book tells you how to help them achieve that milestone. From speech to feeding to gross motor and fine motor to cognitive development, this is the most hopeful and lovely book out there. And by the way, if you are a new parent of a child with down syndrome.....many books are nothing but depressing. Your child has more potential than you can imagine....and this books helps teach you draw it out of your child. Most of the time it is there and you can help draw it out or be much more knowledgeable when working with therapists or doctors. I LOVE THIS BOOK. Thank you to the authors for writing it.
