Love it!,
By
This review is from: Teaching with Intention (Paperback)
I ordered this book because the primary teachers at our school decided we needed to be more consistent with teaching vocabulary. We started a book club and decided to read Reading With Meaning. As I was ordering that book I saw this book and ordered it. I've been teaching for 20 years and this book got me to thinking about a different way to get my kids excited about thinking of our classroom as being part of a community. I love the ideas for using manners and modeling the type of behavior and thinking I want to see in our classroom.
Can't wait to try it!

Aligning beliefs with practice,
By Lori Jackson "lit coach" (Rural South Dakota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Teaching with Intention (Paperback)
With her gentle, loving tone, Miller reminds us of what really counts n the classroom with a discussion of the importance of identifying core beliefs about literacy education. She examines her own reflective process and discusses the importance of the role of reflecting on classroom practice and planning with the goal of alignment. Practicing, as always, her own beliefs, the remainder of the book is organized around Miller's own key beliefs with each chapter illustrating those beliefs through powerful classroom stories. As a coach, I see so much potential in the this book--not just for new teachers, but as part of a discussion that allows us to begin with articulating who we are and what we believe in. Well done, Debbie, well done.

Excellent Book for Veterans and New Teachers,
By
This review is from: Teaching with Intention (Paperback)
I loved Debbie's first book and found this new one to be just as thoughtful. Her friendly voice comes through as a reminder to all teachers that we need to stop and reflect on our beliefs and practices and be strategic about our teaching. I found her "Something to Try" section useful and it encouraged me to give thought to areas I may have not have believed needed changing or rethinking.I highly recommend it!

Good for new teachers,
By
This review is from: Teaching with Intention (Paperback)
I bought this book because I loved her other book. I was disappointed. This book is geared to new teachers. As a teacher of 13 years it didn't have any new that I haven't heard before in seminars or other books. If you know someone who is a first year teacher, it's perfect for them. Otherwise, save your money.

This Book Rocks!,
This review is from: Teaching with Intention (Paperback)
This book helped me set up my classroom, figure out what it was I truly believed in, and gave me the confidence to enact those beliefs in the classroom. I love Debbie Miller!

Great summer read,
This review is from: Teaching with Intention (Paperback)
This is a great book to read as you are thinking about setting up your next classrooms. Lots of great things to think about. I loved Reading With Meaning because it was SOOO user friendly, I could go and try it the next day. This was more theory but got me excited to be a teacher.

What is your teaching philosophy?,
By
This review is from: Teaching with Intention (Paperback)
This book will get you thinking about your teaching philosophy. In these days of high stakes tests and standards being pushed and pushed I think we as educators have gotten lost in all the chaos of state and federal regulations. I think this is a great read for a new teacher as well as a veteran teacher. I have yet to finish it all but from what I have read, I am encouraged by Mrs. Miller to redefine my philosophy of teaching and to keep a journal this year to find out new things about how I teach and what I value the most. Happy Reading!

This book is another pure gold resource from Debbie Miller. Veteran teachers will be challenged to think about why and how they teach. New teachers will learn from THE master as she gently teaches her readers. The thoughts in this book will help ALL teachers form their own personal vision for Why they teach, How they should teach, and What they should teach. The advice and wisdom will help you become a totally effective and loved teacher. Pour the coffee, cozy up on the couch and enjoy the conversation with an old friend. You will not be disappointed while you savor each word.

This book has tremendous ideas that you could put to use right in the classroom immediately. I am a third grade teacher and I can use these ideas with just a little adaptation here and there. This book has lessons you could start with day 1. It is also so easy to read. Not a book that you dread picking up, but one that you can't put down. I am never getting rid of my copy. I will hold on to it for my entire teaching career.
