The classic introduction to Waldorf education and Rudolf Steiner Schools. This book was a huge inspiration to me to take the Waldorf teacher training and many other Waldorf teachers tell the same story. Ignore the unattractive cover; the inside writing is really quite superb.The book paints a picture of the experience of EITHER sending your own child thru a Waldorf school grade by grade; OR, becoming a teacher and taking your own class thru each grade. The book is widely honored as a wonderful artistic presentation of these experiences. That said, a word of caution is useful. The book paints the ideal expression and upbeat frequency of successful Waldorf outcomes. Results at your local school may vary. Having been to 20 Waldorf private and charter schools around the U.S., I can say several schools do approximate the joyous expressions the book presents. Some of these are even Waldorf charter schools. Which schools manifest joyful outcomes for parents, teachers and children is highly determined by the talent and spiritual maturity of Board members, teachers and parents. In other words, Waldorf school need YOU to be successful. This book indirectly invites the best and the brightest to invest themselves in Waldorf education. I responded and I'm glad I did even tho I am not teaching now. Waldorf critics exist in great numbers; yet, this "storm" seems to have mostly blown out because Waldorf is no more a cult than The Republican or Democratic parties are; all are bound by limitations on their vision. The success of Waldorf charter schools, most of these benefiting the poorest of disadvantaged children, did much to convince thinking parents the Waldorf hierarchy has only the best interests of both children and the future at heart.
