5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent comprehensive resource
As a teacher and as a teacher-trainer, I have found this book to be an excellent source for readings and class discussions. It is a very practical book and is very detailed in describing all the options a teacher has in approaching different scenarios. I highly reccomend this to any beginning teacher.

2.0 out of 5 stars long winded and haute
I am taking an alternative certification program. This book was required.
The book does have useful points. However, it is poorly written. The author was too wordy and used terms, not jargon, that made the reading all that more cumbersome. I quite frankly found myself losing patience with it and only skimmed the book just enough to get through the class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for New Teachers!, December 12, 2008
As an instructor, I have reviewed several texts to help preservice teachers prepare for teaching. This text provides excellent examples of several lesson plans from various subjects (Foreign Language, Math, Literature, English, History), and provides steps to developing integrated unit plans. It also provides several examples of student-centered activities. I like the Module set-up and organization of the text because it helps the learner tackle and master specific content at a time. This text prepares students for their evaluations in their student teaching and 1st year teaching positions by thoroughly covering the domains of Planning, Teaching Strategies, Communication, Assessment, and Professional Development.

hard to read and utterly out of date, but its got really good stuff in it and I can see why my teacher used it. To give an idea of HOW out of date it is, the 2009 edition talks about how in 2007 congress is going to have to reconsider No child left behind... in other words, the authors, they didn't revise it, they just moved things around and slapped on a new cover.

As long as you're reading about the stuff that's sort of timeless, this book is good, but anytime it moves into 'of the moment' stuff... such as using VHS in the classroom and how some classrooms are now equipped with laser-disks (in the 2010 edition) you're going to giggle.

Seriously, save your cash, find an old used edition, but otherwise its a pretty good book

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful and interesting book., June 18, 2011

I bought this book for my Methods of Teaching on Secondary Level course. It gives much valuable information for a future teacher, as how to maintain your classroom and treat the students. Most of all, I like the chapters about unit and lesson planning, as the books covers this in details.

Good book for education. Module 8 is a little old school, but overall very practical and necessary.

1.0 out of 5 stars book review, December 15, 2002
This review is from: Teaching in the Middle and Secondary Schools (7th Edition) (Paperback)
I was required to use this book in a college class. There was nothing in the text I did not already know. The format is strange. There are very odd exercises in the book. This text is overly wordy, there is nothing educating in this text. This was by far the worst education text I have ever come across.

4.0 out of 5 stars good service, September 16, 2007
My order arrived on time and in good condition. I do recommend the seller. I have no real complaints except for the price. I think the books were a little over priced but most books are. With that being said I would get my other books from this seller; hopefully the books will be cheaper.
