About the Author
Peter Loel Boonshaft, also author of Teaching Music with Passion, holds Bachelor of Music (Summa Cum Laude), Master of Music Education in Conducting and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. Dr. Boonshaft also was awarded a Connecticut General Fellowship for study at the Kodaly Musical Training Institue, from which he holds a Certificate. He is currently on the faculty of Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, where he is Professor of Music, Director of Bands and Director of graduate wind conducting program. He was Founder and Music Director of the Pennsylvania Youth Honors Concert Band and the Connecticut Valley Youth Wind Ensemble, and held the post of Music Director and Conductor of the Metropolitan Wind Symphony of Boston. Dr. Boonshaft was selected three times as a National Endowment for the Arts "Artist in Residence". He has received official proclamations from the Governors of four states, a Certificate of Appreciation from former President Ronald Reagan, and has performed for former President George Bush, former President Bill Clinton, and former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Extremely active as a guest conductor and speaker for conferences and festivals nationally and internationally, he was choosen as guest conductor of the MENC All-Eastern Band, MENC All-Northwest Band, Goldman Memorial Band, and was named conductor of the MENC National High School Honors Band. He has been keynote speaker for the National Convention of the American String Teachers Association, the European Music Educators Association, the National Convention of the American School Band Directors Association, the MENC Southern Division, and the MENC Northwest Division.
