5.0 out of 5 stars Teaching Percussion The Easy Way!
I think this is a great book for those people looking to teach percussion. It contains information on every percussion instrument, marching percussion, concert percussion, rudiments, rythmic exercises, correct playing positions and lots of pictures for demonstrating various concepts. All in all a wonderful addition to any band director or future teachers shopping cart!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great text, disappointing DVD, March 11, 2007
The text is great, but the DVD is not very helpful. The DVD is a great idea, but it's all shot at one angle, and the clips are very short with little explanation. It demonstrates all the techniques, but not slowly so that you could see what's going on. The text on the otherhand is a must have for instrumental music educators, and a great reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource, September 7, 2007
this is an excellent book for learning percussion. The DVD's that are included really help with form and any questions you would have with the reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Resource, March 10, 2007
The book is extremely well-organized, there is info on just about any percussion-related topic you could think of. The DVDs are also very helpful in providing more visual examples, etc. Will definitely become a valuable resource as I go into teaching. Worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars Percussion Bible, March 17, 2006
This book/DVD is a must-have for percussion instructors, serious percussion students, and band directors! The new DVD's have lots of great demonstrations which remove a lot of the mystery surrounding the world of percussion. You would spend $1000's on clinics, magazine subscriptions, and books to get all of this information for yourself and your students. Gary Cook has put it into one place for you, for about the price of a one-hour private lesson. Don't hesitate to buy this product!

I have been looking for a good textbook that will help me, as a percussionist, to know I am using correct technique with all the many percussion instruments. I have only previewed half of the book, but what I read was very helpful. There was a section discussing the pros and cons of different mallets based on what the shaft is made out of. There were tons of pictures showing the different ways of holding a tambourine based on the type of playing you will be doing, which I've been looking for for years! I'm ordering this book right away, as it will be a wonderful reference for the years to come.

Although this book may seem a bit pricey, it is packed with great information on percussion technique. I've used this throughout college, and am still referencing it while teaching. The 2-DVD set is an added bonus, providing great visual examples of what is covered in the book. This is definitely worth the money spent!
