Reading is a fundamental skill that is the foundation for academic achievement and 'real-world' success. A part of the 'Core Literacy Library', "Teaching Reading Sourcebook" begins with an introductory overview to assessing reading levels and instruction, then comprehensively addresses the issues of word structure (both English and Spanish); print awareness; letter knowledge; and phonemic awareness. The section focusing on decoding and word study includes chapters on phonics, irregular word reading, and multisyllabic word reading. Additional sections address reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Of special note is the section 'Comprehensive Reading Model' offering a three-tier model of instruction.
