A former elementary school teacher, Wiley has written and edited many phonics and reading materials. This book has really changed the way my children read nonfiction. It has increased their vocabulary and their understanding of all parts of nonfiction texts. They no longer overlook the graphic aids, timelines, captions, etc. It has improved their achievment in Science and Social Studies. Highly recommended!

I have been using this book with my at and above-grade level reading groups in second grade, and have found it to be indispensible! Great skills instruction, engaging and timely topics, and solid pedagogical ideas. I supplement with read-alouds, video clips, and art activities, and I have a great non-fiction comprehension program that prepares my students for reading for information in third grade!
