5.0 out of 5 stars Teaching Tall Tales, April 7, 2000
This review is from: Teaching Tall Tales (Grades 3-5) (Paperback)
This book has integrated lessons for grades 3-5 using tall tale characters such as John Henry, Pecos Bill, Davey Crockett and Paul Bunyon, to name a few. Tracey West does a superb job with not only the layout of the book but the content as well. Lessons range from writing about what John Henry would be like if the story was set in the future, to mapping Paul Bunyon's adventures. A full size color map with the characters is included. Very pleased and excited to use this in the classroom!

5.0 out of 5 stars Teaching with Tall Tales - 4th Grade, July 5, 2006
This review is from: Teaching Tall Tales (Grades 3-5) (Paperback)
I used this book with my 4th graders and it is really great. It has lots of good ideas and the tall tales are short and easily reproducible for the whole class.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lost my original copy, but at these prices won't replace it., October 25, 2007
This review is from: Teaching Tall Tales (Grades 3-5) (Paperback)
As an educator I have noticed an ugly trend recently that is very disturbing - hard to find teaching materials at extremely high prices. This is the second book that I have wanted to replace that had an original selling price of approximately $20 being sold at well over $100. I did enjoy using this book before mine got misplaced, but I cannot justify spending almost 10% of my paycheck to replace it. It was good...but not that good. For those sellers out there, please keep in mind you target audience when selling and pricing these books. They are teaching materials, not a first edition of Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby or Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird. I doubt very seriously that you'd see this selling for big money at the Antiques Roadshow in the new future.
