About the Author

The author of several books and numerous articles about second language teaching, Mary Ashworth spent more than 20 years training teachers of English as a second language in the language education department of the University of British Columbia. Professor emerita since her retirement and a fellow of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, Mary was granted an honorary doctorate of laws from the University of British Columbia, as well as honorary degrees from other universities.

Pat was also chair of the ESL Department at Vancouver Community College, and assistant to the director of the Child Study Centre at the University of British Columbia.
