I have attended many presentations by John Fagan of Pope John Paul II writings. John usually had only 15 to 20 minutes to make his points as the presentations were usually at early morning meetings before work or shortly after. John's presentations were informal, but he used notes that were hand written.
On several occasions members of the group would ask for copies of his notes as his comments were so thought provoking and the content rich with catholic thought. As most of us went to work or home to our families after the talks, further personal inquires didn't happen. John took the requests seriously and started providing printed copies of his notes. I'm sure these notes were the beginnings of this book. Reading the book is very similar to the way I remember John giving the presentations. The book includes page references to the Popes letters and encyclicals which are useful for further study. But he also includes biblical references in the text which I found very helpful in my studies. This book is an excellent reference for those who want to learn more about their faith and those who are engaged in teaching the faith. I have placed John's book in my reference library between the Catechism of the Catholic Church and James V Schall's Another Sort of Learning. Regards, Gary Fleming
