4.0 out of 5 stars Man, I miss bands like this!, July 25, 2006

If you missed out on these guys back in the day and can appreciate good, hard driving chord-based hard rock, then take a chance and go for this. If you dig old Dokken, XYZ, and Hurricane, then you will probably appreciate the fun contained on this disc. I think these guys were way underrated. Trust me, great guitar!

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars - a forgotten hard rock album, April 11, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tear the House Down (Audio CD)
1990's Tear the House Down was the debut (and only) release from Hollywood (by way of Minneapolis) hair metal band Hericane Alice. Similar to Baton Rouge, Hericane Alice's sound treads a fine line between the polished melodic rock of Dokken and the raunch & roll of L.A. Guns.

This kind of 80's style party rock isn't anything new, but Hericane Alice does it well. There are plenty of shout-along rock anthems (Shake, Shake, Shout is my favorite), and Too Late is a better than average power ballad. The band stuck pretty close to the hair metal formula, but what they lack in originality they make up for with an energetic performance.

It's a good album overall, but at this point Tear the House Down is really only going to be of interest to serious 80's rock fans.

NOTE: Wounded Bird reissued Tear the House Down in 2008. Like all Wounded Bird reissues, it has not been digitally remastered, nor does it have any bonus material. It's great to see this forgotten album back in print, but if you already own the 1990 version there's no need to replace it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocks hard, July 4, 2004
I had not really heard much about Hericane Alice when I first saw their Young Wild and Crazy video on Launchcast. After that I knew I had to get their album. Tear The House Down rocks hard. Songs like Young Wild and Crazy, Shake Shake Shout, Tear The House Down, and Turn The Heat up should have got tons of radio play and sold millions of copies of this album. The musicianship on this album is just unbeatable. Lead singer Bruce Naumann, which I believe is how you spell his name, is simply unbelievable. Bruce ranks right up their with the best singers like Mark Slaughter, CJ Snare, and Steve Whitemen.

It is a shame that by 1990 most people didn't really care any more about Hair Metal and as a coincidence this poor selling album spelled their doom.
