Editorial Reviews

College Music Journal, January 2002
...it's nearly impossible to detach yourself from the blood, the pain, the sweat, and the tears of this recording.

Product Description
Poison the Well's delicate interludes nestled deep inside the belly of bludgeoning slabs of devastatingly brutal metallic fury and insightful lyrical prose delivered through harsh bellowing balanced by melodious singing has set the standard for contemporary Metalcore bands the world over. Not since the heyday of genre standard bearers Snapcase and more recently, New Found Glory, has a band bubbled forth from the underground with the ability to appeal to fans of emotive indie rock, hardcore pit monsters, diehard metal heads, and the more artistically minded set alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the greatest ever, March 26, 2004
I was reading these other reviews that some other people wrote, and i was literally getting extrememly angry and sick at the same time. this is an EXCELLENT CD!! they say it isnt hardcore enough and i cant even express how wrong that assumption is. I thank god everynite for the songs 'Sticks and Stones, Rings from Corona, Botchla, all so hardcore. Buy it, SO worth it

5.0 out of 5 stars PTW does it again, March 21, 2002
By "glassjawfanatic" (Las Vegas, NV) - See all my reviews
The reviews I've read so far have said things such as "they've gotten more melodic", (and my favorite)"I am a fan of PTW, but this CD just has too much screaming and sounds like noise." For whoever is saying its gotten more melodic, you're right. PTW has gotten more melodic, but they are maturing. "Tear from the Red" still contains the same hardcore stuff that was in "Opposite of December." Just look at the more melodic aspect on "Tear from the Red" to be a something great your getting WITH the hardcore stuff that we all have grown to know and love from Poison the Well. And for whoever said your a fan, but this cd had to much screaming on it... This cd contains just as much screaming as the old stuff, so how did you arrive at being a fan if you don't like the screaming? I mean, screaming is about 95% of what Poison the Well does, and if you can't apreciate that, then there's no hope for you in Poison the Well fan-hood.

Stand out tracks are "Moments Over Exagerate", "Sticks and Stones Never Made Sense", and "Horns and Tails" is great (very emo) but is different from the earlier stuff PTW has done.

Inconclusion, this band's sincere lyrics and hard hitting riffs are what make them great. This is a must own for any PTW fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars but i adore, February 6, 2006
...this album. great progression from the last album. i have trouble understanding why people love the first album and hate the two that follow. each album is great, and each album is an evolution of the band. if i want to hear opposite of december i'll listen to that album. open your eyes, disregard any feedback by other people, and listen to this album for itself, and in fact it's another great release by a great band.
also, it's really cool that the album begins and ends on the same chord: much like a cycle. could this imply anything? that this album was reflective of the time it was written, that it is a separate idea from the album before and any albums following.
