takes you to wherever you want to be,
This review is from: Tearing Sky (Audio CD)
Take the lyrical journey of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Neil Young with a touch of Jerry Garcia's unpretentious guitar strokes, and Rumi's longing, and there--welcome to the world of Piers Faccini.
His music falls into no category yet it takes you from folk, to instrumental, to blues, and somehow lands you in Africa...and then brings you back to wherever you want to be. If you can see him perform live, don't miss it. There you will be, experiencing an unnameable sensation. You will think you are being entertained, but on the last note of songs like Uncover my Eyes, silence will suddenly fall and you will know then--that you were just made love to-- floating senselessly, having lived this little death. Piers Faccini's paintings capture stillness and nothingness. His unpretentious music is the thunder that frames them. If lyrics actually matter to you in your musical experience, you will have hit the jackpot with Tearing Sky and Leave no Trace.

I never heard of Piers Faccini until I purchased tickets for the 9/11/07 Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals show in Knoxville, TN (he was the opening act). Well after many listens of Tearing Sky I am very impressed. I read on his online diary that he would describe his music some times as 'folk'. I would say it is much more than that. I would call it folk the same way some one would call Jeff Buckley folk. Of course listen to the samples for yourself. My current favorites (on a good album this always changes) are Days Like These, Fire in my Head, and Talk to Her.
I also must mention that he was great live. Of course most people was unfamiliar with his work that night, but he seem to win the crowd over by the end of the show (the highlight was Talk To Her). The true sign was people buying his CD and other merchandise during intermission. An added bonus was Piers just showed up during intermission and started signing his merchandise and chatting with fans. He came across as a very likable person. I hope this is not the last time we have a chance to see him in Tennessee and I wish him great success in the future.

I found this to be an excellent album. Very melodic. There's much underlying world music along with some beautiful guitar work and songwriting.

Piers Faccini has a warm and intimate voice and writes wonderful lyrics. Tearing Sky is a great debut and draws subtly and effortlessly from many world music traditions. It is well worth the purchase!

A great surprise. I find Piers Faccini finding recordings wich means a reference recording in audio quality. And Tearing Sky it is: a great recording quality. But the best part is the music, no matter the quality. That man sings very well, and it's a great composer. In the line between Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley.
Don't hesitate to add this cd to your collection. |
