About the Author

Dianea has spent much of her 50 years breaking down the myth, "Children are to be seen and not heard." After graduating from Cornell University's School of Nursing, she worked in various nursing arenas until she found her niche as a clinical nurse specialist on a psychiatric unit for 5 years. Since 1985, when she received her Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Syracuse University, she has worked as a psychotherapist, now in private practice in Ithaca, NY. For a year (96-97), she attended The Primal Center in California. She is inspired by her 2 daughters, Erin and Megan, dancing, and hiking in the National Parks. She is a kid again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sappy sentimentalism, August 2, 2006
This review is from: Tears Are Truth: Waiting to Be Spoken (Paperback)
This book is sappy, whiny sentimentalism at best -- a sad tribute to the author's need for exhibitionism more than anything. If you're interested in learning how many times a week Dianea Kohl-Riise masturbates or her children's poor opinion of her -- look no further. This book is self-help, all right-- self-help for Dianea, and Dianea alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, insightful, unique, revelatory reading., September 7, 2000
This review is from: Tears Are Truth: Waiting to Be Spoken (Paperback)
Something has gone very wrong in contemporary Western culture -- men are expected not to cry, and women, while culturally permitted to weep, are devalued or patronized for it. Eons of human evolution aptly demonstrated the tears serve more than the simple function of providing moisture to the eyes. Tears serve as an emotional and cathartic response to environmental stress, inner emotional turmoil, excesses of feels (be they joy or sorrow), and immensely effective mechanism for renewing the human spirit to deal with whatever life has in store for them. Dianea Kohl-Riise's Tears Are Truth...waiting To Be Spoken is a badly needed, highly recommended antidote to the cultural mores that distort, suppress, and devalue the efficacy of tears for maintaining a complete and cohesive humanity within the individual, the family, and the community.
