A song by song review - a new direction for the band,
By
This review is from: Tears (Audio CD)
I bought this cd just because I love the band and did not recognize the name of the title song Tears and was a little upset that Amazon did not list the songs,When it arrived i was amazed at the disc but a few of the remixes droned on a bit. The band also has taken a slightly new direction here. The songs (including remixes) has a strong electronic feel to it and the band seems to be evolving somewhat in the area. 1.) Tears : This song is on my list of best Cruxshadows songs! The beat and tone of the song kind of reminds me of Marilyn my bitterness V2. Wonderful song & makes the single worth buying! The lyrics remind me of Sept 11. for some reason,I think its just the emotion of the lyrics 2.) Tears : (Apoptygma Berzerk remix) - Very similar to A.P.'s own sound with the vocals from Cruxshadows. This mix seems kind of droning at times sadly. (which is why the single got 4 out of 5 stars) 3. Within : this song is another that really shows a new direction from the band. The chorus chants "I raise my gin to the God within" The drumbeat gets a lil droning with the repeated drum kick but the music and vocals overlap it nicely to make it not mind numbing. Some of the best lyrics the band has ever done. 4. Tears (Robbie Tronco / Knobhead remix) The violin kicks in, the drumbeats then go and then it all stops and the vocals start. Then it repeats for each verse - probably one of the best done remixes i have ever heard! Plus it sounds like the vocals were re-done for this mix. The violin is so prominant here it is incredible! I love this mix! 5. Jabberwocky : Thunder rolls and the poem of Jabberwocky is read out. Not quite a song but just sort of a filler between songs. My wife loved this one though. 6. Tears : (Fictional remix) - This reminded me alot of VNV nation - They added ALOT of vocal effects on the mix and also it sounds like they also had the vocals re-done for this mix. Even though the music is great and the vocals are top notch here the 2 together just dont seem like they link up right but I will be playing this mix is I ever DJ again because it is VERY dancable. 7. Heavens Gaze (Acoustic tears mix) - Buy this cd for this song alone if you must! The same music of heavens gaze , slowed down then done on acoustic instruments. This song is beautiful! This is only my opinions of the songs & I dont expect everyone to agree with me here. I gave it 4 out of 5 because of the remixes just not bieng fully up to par. Also the cover artwork (which is sadly not pictured) is some of the most wonderful i have seen in ages. Over all opinion,I think this is a great direction for the band and i am definatly awaiting a new cd from Cruxshadows soon!

Cruxshadows never disappoint,

Wow. I loved the song Tears the first time I heard it in concert in Philly (home of knobhead) I heard the Knobhead remix premier at the show and waited with baited breath for the single. I loved Within, and Heaven's Gaze is one of my favorite songs, and the acoustic version is great. But my favorite is Jabberwocky. Annabelle Lee is wonderful and they continue the spoken word tradition with yet another masterpiece. I even convinced my parents, that though it's not their style, the band definately has talent!!!

I love this new single!!1) New songs are always a plus! Tears, Within, and Jabberwocky are all beautiful memorable songs (well, Jabberwocky is spoken, but just as entrancing.) I noticed that indeed CXS seem to have gone more industrial and faster but it's just as great as their older stuff. 2) I love the remixes because each one emphasizes a different track in the song; the ever delicious vocals of Rogue, the flawless violin playing of Rachel (brings back the middle eastern flavor found on Mystery), and so on. 3) Thought you could have enough versions of Heaven's Gaze? Think again! This is an acoustic version and terribly gorgeous.

All Though this is just a single it is well worth the money. Some of the remixes ruin the nature of the song but are kewl nonetheless. I am true die hard fan of the cruxshadows and no one can do better then they. So if they read this i want a new album. :)

Tears the Single is even after the Wishfire Release a good buy - lots of good extras on it."Tears" is surely one of their best songs ever. The Apoptygma Berzerk Remix is more spherical and electronic - Apoptygma-tic for sure. Good one. Then the biggest plus of this single starts - "Within". A great song, which showed even before the new album that they are experimenting and changing a little and still sound like themselves. This song is only on this Single. Very dancable, a little more aggressiv, very energetic. Thumbs up! The Robbie Tronco/Knobhead Remix is more electronic, more technoid - not bad, but not my favorite style. "Jabberwocky" - you love it, or you love it not. I love the spoken passages and I'm happy that this is on the Cd. "Tears", Fictional Remix - very electronic with some interessting new sounds - and this one is keeping the magic of the song too, esp. Rogue's voice. And the second big plus of this Single is the "acoustic tears edit" of "Heaven's Gaze". Only on this Single available. It's great - it's like heaven. very clear violine and voice. Listen and dream. A live video of tears is on this cd too, taken in Philadelphia. Recommendation: Buy it - together with Wishfire if you don't have it too - it's a bargain considering what you get on this cd. das Darke

Never before has a song reached me as much as "Tears". From the original concept to every other remixed take on it. This song will always be an eternal part of who I am. For those of you who prefer the club vibe to the epic darkwave feeling, this is guaranteed to please you. 5 stars and counting!

I love the cruxshadows. I own almost all of their cd's and I love them all. They are such a great band, and I could listen to these albums all the time. They as a band stand out so much from the average crap that you hear on any radio station. They have so much talent, and imagination when it comes with their music. If you find out that you like their music I strongly reccomend that you see them in concert also. They are great in concert too. They are also very nice people. I have seen them in concert twice and it was very enjoyable. They always stay behind to talk to their fans, sign autographs, and to take pictures. I wish them much success in all of their endeavors.

As soon as I popped this in my CD player, I was hooked! "Tears" is just truly beautiful, as well as extremely danceable. Also, singer Rogue's version of "Jabberwocky" was very entertaining and enjoyable!

Their latest single, tears is a great lil song. Elements of new wave with elements of ebm with Rogues outstanding vocal talents and lyrics just make this song a gem. The only iffy thing about this ep and the reason why it got 4 instead of 5 stars is the repetitive remix of the song. I think the Cruxshadows have something fresh about them.. hearing repetitive remixes done by repetitve ebm bands doesn't do the song justice.
