More About the Author

Pastor Adrian "AD" Davis is a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He currently serves as Senior Pastor of All Nations Christian Center in Huntsville, AL , named one of the fastest growing churches in the city. This man of God's messages of hope, positive thinking, and empowerment are sustaining and motivating to both young and old across the world. His motto, 'It's better to train up whole children, than to fix broken adults' encourages us to reach back and help the next generation.

Prior to joining the pastoral staff at All Nations Christian Center, Pastor AD served in several ministries throughout the Southeast. While attending Johnson Bible College to receive his Master's degree in Divinity, Pastor AD became most notable as one half of Beyond Words Mime Ministry; where for over ten years, he traveled the world leading souls to Christ through the ministry of mime.

Pastor AD accepted his call into the ministry at the young age of eighteen. He has matured into a powerful man of God who knows and understands his call and passion to see our youth and young adults accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. His mission is to enlighten, equip, encourage, and empower youth and young adults to know who God is and who they are in the kingdom of God.

Known for his untraditional approach to the word of God, Pastor AD paints vivid pictures of the Gospel and is known for creating remarkable illustrations and interactive ways of preaching the word without changing God's message. Pastor AD acknowledges that the Lord has sent him on a mission to teach, translate, transform, and train his people. He is a motivational speaker and mentor to hundreds of high school students in the Tennessee Valley.

I love books that tell an amazing story of victory without taking forever to read. I've known Pastor AD less than a year and when I first started attending his church I knew he had the anointing and I could tell he carried a story, but I wasn't thinking this. I love the transparency of his story and the journey to self love through God's love. To read about a man owning his emotions is refreshing and I hope that men and women will be inspired and touched through his testimony. I know I've been. God has a plan for each of us and sometimes we have to be broken down to nothing to become everything He intended for us to be. This book is a true testament of that!!

I cried. Not so much because of what all Adrian (Pastor AD) went through (although the way things transpired would make you cry), but for the fact that even as I read the story I was thinking, "Jesus". Of course, when we're in the midst of our trials we think there is no way we will make it out and Adrian shares this in his book. I'm thankful for the transparency he has and the testimony that God has given him. There's a saying, "No one can tell my story like I can tell MY story" and as I read Adrian's "story" I wasn't too focused on all that he had to encounter, but the power and ways of the Great I Am. I would recommend this book to anyone who has been through anything at all. There's hope and encouragement in "Tears Down a Smiling Face". I had no idea that I would receive the book today (the release is 11.12.13), but it was such a blessing to read and think about my life and my past. "He watched and waited for years as I gave away the space in my heart, mind, and soul at times to things and people" is a line in the book that stirred something up within me. God's timing and His love is beyond all that we can phantom and His will and ways will prevail even when we don't hold onto that truth. I have been encouraged and blessed by this book. Pastor AD's story shows that Jesus' sacrificial death saved us (those who have accepted Him as Lord and Savior), yet now that He's well removed from the cross He still SAVES us. Christ can, will, and does save us from ourselves.

My favorite quote of the book is that we need to move from "wounded healers" to "whole healers". I thank Pastor AD for sharing his personal story to enrich and enlighten others, but most importantly I thank God for empowering Pastor AD with the strength to share. So very often satan keeps us locked in shame and in fear, so we don't talk about the things that we struggle or have struggled with. It is the trick of the devil to keep us from sharing our stories because he knows that for us to share our story means to give God the praise for the victory of bringing us out. God wants us to share our stories because He didn't bring it through it just to save us; He brought us through it so we can help to save others. Pastor AD you will save lives with this book because you were obedient enough to share your story! God Blessings upon you!

I bought this book back in February but never read it. Last night was one of the hardest nights of my life. I seriously was contemplating ending it all. I'm overwhelmed with the smiling mask I wear on a daily basis while tears stream on the inside but because I am a "Minister" I feel like I can't reveal my struggles until I'm out of the situation or people will judge me (deep down I know that's not completely true... but I guess pride is partly to blame). It's like you think you know someone by the mask they show when in reality, you know nothing. Last night this book came to my mind because the title summed up everything I felt in that moment. I made a commitment to read the book when I got to work the next morning. Of course when I got in the office, I forgot. But God always has a way. Like I said, I purchased the book in February and today, of all days, I received an email from Amazon to review this book purchase. BOOM! There was my reminder to read it. Over the next hour, I read straight through the book and now I see why I needed it. Could I apply the whole book to my life? Of course not. Are my problems over? No. Have my thoughts changed? No exactly. But one thing I can say, is that if He did it before, He can do it again for me. Yes, it is so much easier to say that right now as I type this review barely able to see the screen because of the tears falling down my cheeks. This book has not changed my life or situation, but it has encouraged me to seek God more. In doing so it is my prayer that things will change. Not overnight, I know even though that would be great (lol). Maybe I am needed for a greater purpose than this. Maybe suicide is not the right answer but more of an easy way out. I don't know what the next hour, minute, or even second holds for me...Read more ›

Wow!!! Just when you think you have a person figured out simply because you see their smile, style, and personality; you know nothing until you know their story and feel their glory! We sometimes tend to think our problems are incomparable or indifferent than others when in all actuality there is always someone doing worst! Adrian Davis is truly a walking testimony and to be able to get through it all and tell his story, not only to let it be known, but to help others because they may be going through the exact same thing, is breathtaking to me! This book was powerful within every chapter and I was definitely moved and touched by it!
