Book Description

June 2, 2003
My high school years were not happy times. I believe the combination of puberty, the death of my grandma and resulting grieving period, and switching school environments all contributed to my depression during those formative high school years. I had been so incapacitated by my grief caused by Grandma’s death and depression about my life situation, in general, that my social skills were frozen at a time they were needed to adapt to the new circumstances in my life. A lovely, poignant memoir about a young girl’s life that takes place in a small rural Pennsylvania village during the explosive sixties. Linda is forced to face the illness of her beloved grandmother who was diagnosed with cancer and comes to live with her family because she could no longer care for herself. This eventually results in her first encounter with death and her struggle with ensuing grief. She also must learn to cope with an abusive home situation and the harassment of peers at school. It offers hope to those who may find themselves in similar situations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tears ,Joy and Hope, August 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Tears for Grandma (Paperback)
As a male reader I found myself tearing up as I went thru Linda's life. It was not easy, but yet you have the feeling of Hope, that if she just sticks to it, she will get thru it. The words just jump out at you, and I could not wait to turn the page. I recommend this book to everyone of all ages. It has humor at just the right places. I got the feeling that her life was being directed from above. Excellent Book.

The family drama in Tears for Grandma is truly universal. Linda's family is your family, it's my family, it's our family. Like a long family visit on a cold winter night, this book is to be savored, relished, cherished, and read over and over and over again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heroes are all around us!, August 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Tears for Grandma (Paperback)
Proves that you don't have to be a celebrity to lead an extraordinary life. Perhaps, in fact, Tears for Grandma proves just the opposite: I know few celebrities whose lives are as touching, poignant, giving, honest, and loyal as the family members portrayed in this engrossing memoir...
