Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Having sung a groovy duet with French crooner Katerine ("Parlez-Vous Anglais Mr Katerine?"), as well as backing vocals for several popular bands (including Simply Red), A Girl Called Eddy (who splits her time equally between Greenwich Village and Paris) figured it was time to strike out on her melancholy and moving own. Inspired by Tracy Thorn, Richard Harris, Michael Caine, Peter O'Toole, earl gray tea, 24 Faubourg Parfum by Hermes, rainy days, Gene Wilder in WIllie Wonka, a nice glass of red, starry nights, airports (but not flying), Prefab Sprout, all the B's: Leslie Bricusse, Burt Bacharach, the 'Blue Note', The Blue Nile, Bjork, Beck, Brian Wilson, Lionel Bart, Bowie, Beatles, My Bloody Valentine..., "The Little Prince" (movie and book), glockenspiels!, the warmth of the sun, ma, 3/4 time, L'oreal Quick-Stick Instant Foundation, Revlon lipstick in "Cherry Crush", Jimmy Webb, Breath Right Nasal Strips (THE most genius), CASSIS, the town, men who make you laugh, "Harold and Maude", trenchcoats, Chauncy the dog, Chrissy Hynde, Dusty Springfield, Karen Carpenter, the smell of fresh-cut grass, and the sea, Paris, Scott Walker, Serge and Gilbert O'Sullivan, Tony Richardson movies... Her debut 5 song EP is romantically titled "Tears All Over Town" and includes a selection of perfect moments: "You Can Call Him Heartache," "Soundtrack of Your Life," "Girls Can Really Tear You Up Inside," "Same Old Tears," and "Fading."

A Girl Called Eddy once sang a duet with French singer Katerine, lives in NYC, and drinks more than she should. This is the letter her label-honcho/ boss-man wrote to her when he heard her demo (since she's not good at writing her own 'bio') such a drunken delight. expect a call in the morning. make that the afternoon since it's already so close to the morning as it is. there's nothing i would like more than to be involved with these songs will i have to leave a message. i would prefer to speak in person. there's very little i like less then leaving a voice mail. is there a number at work where i can reach you or should i just phone you... write me here to let me know. so much. let me know so much. your songs make me feel so much. so much. honestly. so incredibly moving. so rare. so influential not yet, but soon. even now. moving me to feelings. ha. i'm so drunk. so strange writing an e-mail so late. i feel what you're doing. and i feel you in the morning reading this with laughter. i'm only on "kathleen" and already i know i'll be listening to nothing else for days and weeks and months on end. where have you been all my life. honestly. all the music i love is nothing anymore. my dog is leaving the room. stormy doesn't seem to be as crazy about this as i am. it's almost 5am so i suppose i'll excuse him just this one time. one time. just this one. i'm still ready for fading, girls can really tear you up inside (which is far too true) and soundtrack of your life (french version). Honestly, I can't imagine that I could possibly write an e-mail to convey the feelings I have right now. This is seriously some of the most beautiful and emotionally charged yet melancholy and moving music I've heard in ages. In forever. All night. Just spent hours making out to the music of The Dependents. It was her selection. Her car. Her tape. I mentioned that my label might be too pop and she confessed to liking Blink 182. Hmm. But this is serious. Your music is so serious. So completely perfect and charming and tender and harsh. So many adjectives. Note big kid rock party this saturday in his farmhouse mansion. i can't think of anything else. Not books. not records. not dreams. not e-mails. only this music. only this music. obvious nods towards tracey thorn though you might prefer to deny. wow. amazing. incredible. and yes, i did forget about you. you wrote to me previously? saying you would send this? why not sooner? why not when i was 17? you would have surely shaped my life and not just my evening. we should talk. we should work

5.0 out of 5 stars A wee bit melancholy., May 9, 2003
By High Cold Star (Wakefield, MA United States) - See all my reviews
I like Eddy. Waiting for more. There's a bit of Tracey Thorn from -Everything but the Girl- in both her lyrics and her voice. My only complaint is that I would have liked to listen to more. She has a place among Margo Timmins, Hope Sandoval and Beth Orton - that particular signature.

This is a special ep and a singer who has a special voice.
The rich lyrics and wonderful arrangements will leave you wanting more and more. This is the beginning of a wonderful road for the group and I suggest you buy the ep and get in on the wonder.
