Disappointed,
By
This review is from: Teavana PerfecTea Tea Maker, 16oz
Teavana presents itself as a serious company. I wish they would have mentioned in the Perfecteamaker promotion that it changes the flavor of the tea you use. It must be the plastic. Some of the tea I like has tremendous subtlety and character and 90% of that is nullified with this device. I've used it for about a week using the same amount of tea and water and temperature and each brew is a disappointment. It doesn't make the tea taste bad, it just removes the special elements of flavor. I still use it because it's much more convenient than old fashioned methods. But if I have the time and I'd like to taste the Dragonwell or Jasmine I go to my cast iron pot or even just a stainless strainer on a mug. When you spend as much as $100. per pound on a fine tea you don't want the taste to almost disappear. I guess had I known about this in advance I would have not bought it. It is very well made, by the way.

Really great, but with one major flaw,
By Ella (Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Teavana PerfecTea Tea Maker, 16oz
The good: This is really easy to use and you don't get any leaves in your tea. It also looks really cool when making the tea. You just put tea leaves and hot water in the top, let it steep, then put it over a mug (or anything else you drink tea from) and it automatically pours the brewed tea from the bottom. The bad: As the tea pours directly into the cup from the bottom of the tea maker, unless you have a clear mug you can't see how much you're pouring. Lifting the tea maker up to check the quantity in the cup is slightly annoying, and I've had a few overflows, but it's not a big deal. It's also avoidable with the extra step of pouring the liquid into the cup/mug to measure and then into the tea maker. However, it is perfect size for my Thermos Nissan JMW500P6 16-Ounce Stainless-Steel Backpack Bottle, Silver, so that works great and I don't need to check the quantity in the thermos! Cleaning: It's pretty easy to clean. Generally, I throw out the leaves right away and then rinse the tea maker out with hot water. I then let it dry with the lid open. That does the job pretty well. If I let it sit or decide that I want a more thorough cleaning, the filter pops out very easily. However, I did have a bit of trouble getting it back in the first few times. It takes a little practice, but becomes very easy. Overall, I highly recommend this tea maker, even with the small flaw.

Makes great coffee or tea, but very difficult to clean,
By youpickedawinner "youpickedawinner" (Southern Utah) - See all my reviews PROS: It appears to be of a sturdy design with a durable look and feel that seems like it would last a long time. The beverages brewed are very good. In fact, to give a bit more detail, the way this brews coffee is actually ideal according to good brewing procedure. It allows you to combine the water with the grounds without the use of any paper filter and at a time-controlled interval. The resulting coffee is then released directly into your cup. Because you get full extraction of the essential oils, the coffee this makes is very similar to a vacuum pot brew, very rich and tasty with not much bitterness. 5 stars on beverage quality. CONS: The chief complaint with this little brewer is that it does not come apart for cleaning. I really find this to be UNACCEPTABLE and because of this, even though it produces fantastic beverages, I have given it 2 stars overall. The main problems with not being able to clean it are as follows: (1) A search of the web will bring up other review sites, where you will see that many people have ended up having to throw their Teavana brewers away because of mold formation inside the mesh part in between the mesh filter and the stopper. A product like this should be able to be taken completely apart for cleaning. Having to throw away such an expensive product just because of mildew, even in spite of cleaning it, and especially when it is in good condition otherwise, is absolutely unacceptable, IMO. (2) The amount of water necessary to clean the brewer each time you use it is wasteful, making it environmentally unfriendly. Since there is no way to remove the mesh strainer, you have to really work hard to get in there and get the tea leaves or coffee grounds out of the strainer and it takes many rinses and washes to do this, which is a complete waste of water. I have tried using different types of small brushes and that has helped, but even then, a lot of water is required. When the company makes a brewer that can come apart for cleaning, I'll be willing to try it and revise this review as necessary.
