flexible interval timer, January 25, 2010
This review is from: Tech 4 O Performer Womens Watch (Sports)
I know next to nothing about interval timers and this is my first purchase. It seems there aren't many interval timers in the marketplace in the affordable price range, and interval timer literature is equally scanty and bewildering to the uninitiated. I had no firm understanding of what I was getting with this watch. But I was tired of trying to count intervals in my head so I decided to give this a chance. What appears below is the Tech 4O website literature (along with my comments on this unit in parentheses). This watch does not measure DISTANCES, like Tech 4o's Acclerometer product line; it measures, slices, and dices TIME.
CHRONOGRAPH
*Range: - 99hrs, 59min, 59.99secs
*Resolution: - 1/100 sec
*Laps: - 100 maximum
*Target Times: - 50 maximum
*Set personal target times for each lap in order to better maintain their pace; display how far ahead or behind pace the user is based on the personal target times entered into the watch.
(I don't do lap training yet so I haven't used this feature.)
CHRONO MEMORY
*Range: - 99hrs, 59min, 59.99secs
*Records: - 1/100 sec
*Laps: - 100 maximum
*Max lap time
*Min lap time
*Average lap time
(View a summary of your lap speeds; haven't used this feature.)
TIMER (This is the primary reason I purchased this unit. It is completely programmable, you don't have to select from a pre-defined menu of interval times)
*Linked Timer: - specified timer will automatically start at end of previous timer - 25 linked timers maximum (ideal for setting interval pairs of varying lengths, such as a five minute slow warmup/one minute fast warmup interval pair, followed by a 30 second fast/one minute slow jogging interval pair, followed by a one minute fast/two minute slow jogging interval pair...whatever you like)
*Repeat Timer: - same timer will repeat for specified number of times - 99 repeat times maximum (will repeat a single slow-fast interval pair up to 99 times)
*Single Timer: - one timer only will count to expiration (times a single, isolated event)
*Countup Timer: - when the timer expires, a new timer will count up to specified time - 99 hrs, 59 mins, 59 secs maximum countup time (this timer is activated after a previous timer expires; for example after a string of "linked timer" intervals, this countup timer will start...handy for pre-setting your cool down, so you don't short-change your cool down period)
TIME/DATE
*Current Time - 12/24 hr formats
*Day of Week
*Current Date
*Alternate Time Zone: - User programmable
*2 Daily Alarms: - User programmable (my alarm works every morning, "like clockwork")
*Hourly Chime: - on/off option
(Also has a blue back light so you can easily see the display at night)
WATER RESISTANCE
*Men's: - 100 ft / 30 m,
*Women's: - 150 ft / 50 m
(Haven't tested this under water but during the few weeks I've had it, sweat hasn't entered the watch and fogged up the display)
WARRANTY - 1 Year
(I hope it lasts longer than that because I'm fond of this gadget!)
(The watch face is chunky and I have very small wrists - I use the smallest hole and it's still a tad too large. Nevertheless the strap is comfortable and I can easily forget that I'm wearing it. The programmable interval timer is convenient and useful.)
(I had to be patient in order to get through the complex instructions and set up this watch but I managed to do it just fine. Maybe some people, like me, find the product marketing literature to be intimidating. This could explain why this watch is not a top seller. Overall I am glad I got it and I enjoy its flexibility.)
