Tuned it up and it sounds great.

This thing sounds and feels better than some basses I paid 5 times more for.

Expect it to be a bass that you can play, and sound like a bass.

It's a complete mystery how these people can manufacture a bass like this for that price. Go figure. Although they need a new picture, the neck is "dark"rosewood not "light" maple. Still,...It's a great Bass!!!

I'm a guitarist who occasionally plays bass, and I needed to pick up a bass guitar to have on hand for recording demos and jamming around. I was skeptical when I saw what appeared to be a decent looking bass for just $100. I've bought guitars for that amount before, and it has always been a mistake. I bought this bass with a healthy degree of skepticism, thinking it might very well be a piece of crap that I would have to resell for half the price or give to a needy bass-less child. However, I am more than pleasantly surprised to find that, yes, it sounds ok and plays ok. Hooray!

It will not work miracles. It will not part the red sea, feed the 5,000, nor heal the wounded. Do not expect it to have a signature sound or be particularly unique. Expect it to be a bass that you can play, and sound like a bass. It's a bass! It sounds like a bass and doesn't suck! If you're worried that it will suck, it will not!

Considering the price, this bass is awesome. Of course, it cannot be compared to a real stingray bass but still, it does the job if you're a beginner like me. The pickups are ok but I would recommand to change them. The bass needed a little tune-up but just a few turns of the truss rod counterclockwise did the job. The strings were terrible but it's not a big deal to change it.

At this price point you can't get a better bass. Very solid and heavy body. Neck smooth an playable even for guys like me smaller hands. Full sized bass though.

The punchy sound out of this thing is incredible. Can't stop playing it. Seller very nice and entertained my questions prior to purchase.

One negative is that the black model is shown with a maple fret board. I emailed the seller prior to confirm. They confirmed. Received the bass and it is rosewood. Thought about replacing it until I plugged it in. Then, you could offer $200 for it and I'd walk away. It's really that much fun to play.

Best bass for the price hands down. For the quality, price, and playability.... No comparison.
Better than known brand beginner basses in my opinion. I have had lots of beginner basses such as Squire, epiphone, Ibanez, Peavey and I have to say its up there or even better if you Change the Strings and put some $20 preamps for an even better sound.. Pro like sound.

Want the looks of a Stingray, but not much else out-of-the-box? This may be your bass.

The Bad: At ten plus pounds, this bass is a heavyweight in heft,
It's a lightweight in sound though.
Piercing treble, weak bass from the passive MM style pickup (about 6 K ohms resistance). Action is about right for a sub-$100 bass. Controls are a mystery, as they have provided one volume and two tones. On a single pickup?
Strings are rubbish. Plan on replacing them as a minimum.

The Good: If you get a straight one, the maple neck with rosewood fingerboard is surprisingly good and the bridge yields incredible sustain. Finish is on par with the really good imports.

Summary: As delivered, it is worth every penny. Just don't expect it to play like anything but a $100 bass. However, it has great potential as a project bass.

If you can solder and are prepared to sink another $150 into a new four-wire pickup*, new potentiometers and maybe even a low-end on-board 2 band EQ, add some new GHS, DR or EB strings, you could have a very playable Stingray type bass for less than $300 total investment.

Have the work done by someone else, and you might find it would have been cheaper to buy a Sterling Ray34 off the shelf.

*Using a four-wire pickup, you can split (coil tap) the humbucker pickup to have two volumes, one tone control. Or go with some concentric pots for 2V/2T like a VM Jazz bass. Now you can shape some tones.

UPDATE: If you get a MM pickup from GFS ($27-$37), you could build this rig out for under $200 total investment.

Purchased this bass last week, and I have to say, great instrument for the money. As many have said before, an upgrade in strings is absolutely essential, along with a bit of truss rod adjustment. You end up with a decent sounding and easy to play bass thats perfect for learners, or even someone who's looking for a stage back up. This is a solid, heavy machine, and how this company can keep the price so low yet crank out a good product is beyond me, but they do. Tuners and frets are just fine, not first class by any means, and the pickup should be changed out eventually, but all in all a great deal. Even the burgundy sparkle looks swanky! Friends of mine are bowled over by this thing, and can't believe I paid less than a $100 bucks for it.
