5.0 out of 5 stars Door Alarm
We bought two of these alarms. They fit nicely over the knob and the sound is not obnoxious (we use the chime setting.) Its quick to respond to vibrations from the door being opened. These are inexpensive by comparison to other products on the market. I bought three different kinds of intruder protection items, and these served our purpose perfectly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Can't disarm without LOUD EAR-PERCING CHILD AWAKENING noise
It works, but it is sensitive. Half the time you can't turn it off without waking up the neighborhood. I tried to cautiously hold down the unit when turning it off. It is possible to quietly disarm, but it is hard. Imagine one of those movies where the guy is trying to disarm a bomb without blowing himself up and everyone around him. THAT is the kind of sensitivity...

5.0 out of 5 stars If They're up to No Good This Thing Will Stop Them!, July 4, 2008

I got this because my former supervisor at my old job just cant get enough & she tries to come & pick/bump our locks. After moving 900 miles across the country, 3 months after we moved into our apartment we started noticing our deadbolt unlocked. We wanted to see if we were simply forgetting to lock it or was someone up to something. Sure enough at 4 am the day after we installed this it started going off. I estimate the sound to be at least 120 decibels; in the next room! It was soo loud we had to cover the speaker with some tape to keep from waking up all 12 units in our building! So far the lock picker has stayed away recently. Great for seniors who may be hard of hearing!

works well for our condo...the only thing would be nice is a way to shut off the unit without setting it off...like a remote. it is nice and loud for a little unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very sensitive, January 6, 2009

This is a great product, very sensitive. Unfortunately it is too sensitive for me, since i live in an appartment complex, and even my my neighbour slams their door, this thing goes off. But other than that, I think its the bext product out there for someone who is not in an appartment building. Oh yeah, its VERY louod too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just What I Was Looking For, November 6, 2009

I was looking for a door alarm that was easy to use. Techko S184 is that. The sounds it puts out are loud, but you have a choice to switch it off before it hurts your ears or wakes your dogs. I would have rested easier if I had bought this sooner. If you use the "chime" which is really not a chime, when you turn it off, switch the switch to the bottom (which is the alarm) and it gives you a few seconds to look where off is, which is in the middle. I leave one of them on all the time on a door we don't use. It is very sensitive, but isn't that what you want?

It is made with cheap plastic, however, the sound is very loud and effective. For something that just hangs on my door knob and is used as a deterant or just to give me plenty of time to get my weapon, I am glad I purchased it.

This is a basic door knob alarm. The idea is that you hang it over the inside of a door and when the door opens, the vibration sensor will set off the alarm. The alarm has two settings - an incredibly loud wail to scare away intruders and wake sleeping residents and a quieter but still reasonably loud chime to announce that the door has been opened. (The second alarm is about as loud as a loud doorbell).

We got this for our toddler's room, in order to alert us when she got out of bed. After a few weeks, we took it off. When it worked, it was fine, but about 50% of the time, she opened the door gently enough that the alarm didn't go off. If it was a little more sensitive, it would have been great for us, and it would probably be fine for a "sticky" door that can't be opened smoothly, like a weatherstripped exterior door.

i bought a couple of differnt types to experiment, and this 1 is the loudest most ear piercing 1 of the bunch...i hang it on my sliding glass door arm brace, and there is NO way someone is getting in without making alot of racket...the only thing that keep its from being perfect is that the knob hook is a hard plastic, and you can't use it with door knob braces, you have to use an alrm that hangs with a chain or soft cord

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheaply made, sometimes works, July 2, 2008

I had to throw this away after trying it. It looks good in the photo but it is flimsy and unreliable. Sometimes it would work when moved; other times you could slam the door and even shake the alarm and it would still be silent. So if it can't be counted on to work every time someone opens the door, it can't be counted on at all, right? Don't waste your money on this one.
