Use Shure in- ear phones with this. Connection points work out really good, cable not too long or short.

Works well, clear audio to receiving end, effective volume control. Use with Shure 530 in ear phones.

Ever since the Shure-branded "Music Phone Adapter" which I used with my Shure SE-210 in-ear headphones and my iPhone 4 broke, I have been trying out different brands as replacements. The most recent one I tried was the "Headset Hands Free + Dual Headphones + 3.5mm Adapter + Microphone for Apple iPod Touch iTouch 1 2 3 iPad iPhone 2 3g 3gS". This one was an utter disaster. It broke within weeks.

This Audio Technica model, however, is the best I've seen. One of the best things about it is the excellent strain-relief on the male connector end. Most strain relief on these products is too stiff and rigid to actually serve a purpose - the wire just break above the string relief. On these, though, the strain relief is very supple and flexible so it feels like it is really doing its job. Also the spring clip is very solidly built and can pivot which is very convenient.

The downsides are that it is a bit large (barely fits in the oval zipper case for my headphone, but does squeeze in) and that the volume slider is mechanic, not electronic. I would prefer digital buttons that actually adjust the volume of the iphone it is connected to (like on the apple-branded headphones) but this one just adds resistance and makes the headphones receive less signal.

This is an excellent product overall, and if my adapter does end up breaking eventually, I will be replacing it with the same one.

If this thing was fully functional on my iPhone 4, it would have been a 5 star product. However the mic does not work at all and I can only give it 1 star.

This mic and it's controls worked very well on my iPhone 3G. After about six months, the controls became unresponsive at times. I discovered the wire connection near the plug is somehow loose. A little tinkering and it works again for part of the day. Not too rugged, I guess, as it hasn't been beat up much.

It's great when a product does what you expect and this one does. Easy to use, small and lightweight - the most important attributes to me.

I should have researched better before purchasing this product. Very disappointing! Microphone quality was terrible. Control button worked for about a week then it failed all together. I found myself fumbling around trying to get people to hear me. Finally I gave up and removed this mic all together. I had better luck just holding my phone up to my mouth!

$15 down the drain.
