I recently purchased a Audio Technica ATM10A Omnidirectional microphone. In my tests it is very sensitive; it will easily pick up a whisper from across the room (with decent preamplification which my recorder has). In fact that is why I am rating it 4 stars. Its sensitivity and omnidirectional pickup pattern means that if there is any unwanted noise around you are going to record it too.

Quality of sound is first rate. No proximity effect (increased bass responce close up), smooth even sound across my recorders range with No strange emphasis, it just picks up what it hears accurately. Maybe not for the rock music crowd, but if you want to record evironmental sounds, or need accurate reproduction this mic works great. It is really a modern condenser version of the old reporter's interview microphone.

It does not seem overly sensitive to handling, while you can of course get a rumble if you try, normal careful handling should not be a problem.

Works with phantom power, or INTERNAL BATTERY, so you can use it with older recorders, no problem. However, I did find that it is finiky about batteries, at first it was somewhat noisy, but changing brands of battery fixed that (Yes, I think that is strange too).

I think I shall be buying a second one soon.

This mic. is awesome for piano! We use it live at our church, and it offered a huge improvement over the sennheiser we had been using. Great bang for the buck!
