Editorial Reviews

Review

Picking up where Charles Dow left off, Richard Schabacker achieved fame in the 1920's and 1930's with his seminal work in technical analysis, which he said was capable of finding "dependable profits in the stock market, year in and year out." Students of his work went on to build technical analysis into the refined discipline it is today. This handsomely illustrated reproduction of Schabacker's landmark study of 1932 is a chartist classic. -- Markets, July/August 1998

The Information is as solid today as when it was written more than 50 years ago. This book is a large part of the foundation of technical analysis as we now know it. -- Technical Analysis of Stocks & Commodities, April 1998

From the Back Cover

Richard W. Schabacker's great work, Technical Analysis & Stock Market Profits, is a worthy addition to any technical analyst's personal library or any market library. His "pioneering research" represents one of the finest works ever produced on Technical Analysis. And this book remains an example of the highest order of analytical quality and incisive trading wisdom.

Originally devised as a practical course for investors, it is as alive, vital and instructional as the day it was written, and its evident excellence of intricate technical revelation makes the effort to bring it back to the analytical community worldwide.

Richard W. Schabacker has presented Technical Analysis as a totally organized subject and comprehensively lays out the various important patterns, formations, trends, support and resistance areas, and associated supporting technical detail. He presents factors that can be confidently relied on, and gives equal attention to the blemishes and weaknesses that can upset the best of analytical forecasts. Factors which investors would do well to absorb and apply when undertaking the fascinating game of price, time and volume analysis.

The Trader's Masterclass series brings to the market a set of classic texts from the "golden age" of technical analysis — timeless trading wisdom, laying the foundations on which a growing body of investment literature has been built.

THese original works from the pioneer of Technical Analysis contain uniquely insightful lessons, winning formulas and trading tactics than can be put to use in any market, at any time. Generations of investors may come and go, but the nature of speculation remains the same. For investors and market-students alike, these masters represent the original formulas for trading success.

"Today's technician has all the modern computer methods of interpreting price and buying trends. No matter how sophisticated they get, all technicians must get back to basics and there is no finer way of reviewing those time-honored technical principles, rules and precepts than with the original version of Schabacker's Technical Analysis and Stock Market Profits."

—Noted Wall Street Technical Analyst, Ralph Acampora

4.0 out of 5 stars Epic for its time, July 18, 2003

The ironic thing is, you couldn't tell it was written in 1932 or 2002 .. the techniques are identical to basic TA today , even the psychology section about cutting losses and trading with the trend sound familiar. Certainly revolutionary when it came out, it's somewhat dated now and a bit wordy. Anyone familiar with chart patterns - h&s, wedges, flags, triangles, trendlines will likely find nothing new in this book. Also, the explanations are a bit wordy .. though I suspect this was necessary when no one was familiar with it. I give it 3 stars for content and another for the fact that it was written in 1932. However, an advanced trader will find this book useless other than for sentimental curiosity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gotta Start Somewhere, August 8, 2000

Very good and thorough. If you've had no technical analysis experience, this won't go over your head, and it won't bore you to death if you're somewhat familiar. Somewhat out of date in that it was written in the 30's, but the charts and formations it highlights are eerily valid, relevant, and applicable today as it was back then so you KNOW it's been time tested. Stocks don't chart any differently today than they did back then. Advanced technicians wouldn't like it...doesn't go into the "data" side of technical analysis as in ADX, MACD, RSI,...etc. But about a good a starting point as you're going to find. A great foundation builder.

Do you want to know how everything started ? Do you want to know why this silly "Technical Analysis" really works ? Well, this is the right way to start. Do not believe in these new computer intraday graphs that stockbrokers try to push to you until you really knows how technical analysis really works. You may be a hero to them (who earn comissions on your trade)but your wife will probably hate you for losing your house. Please, learn how everything begin before you start trading in the market
