Markel's "Technical Communication",
By
This review is from: Technical Communication (Paperback)
I had to buy this book for a college course and, quite frankly, I think it's ridiculous. While there are fantastic examples and projects in this text, I did not come across a single piece of information that could qualify as anything other than common sense. This may be useful as an early high school textbook, but no high school grad should need to learn any of this stuff. The result was a class of 30 kids rolling their eyes through lectures and laughing at the absurdity of the material included. I was very irritated to pay such a high price for a book that afforded me no new knowledge. The two stars were for the book's potential use in high schools or as a teacher's resource for relevant projects in technical writing.

This book has very useful information for professional writing. The only complaint I have is the author occasionally states his opinions as facts.

I have the eighth and ninth edition(ed.)! Both being great works of art. The value of the eighth is substantial, until the tenth comes out reducing the price of the ninth. There are major changes between the eighth and ninth (although hardly noticeable unless you have both texts). For college though, a $100 price difference at purchasing time, your pocket may make the decision for you!

When you click to see 'inside', they show you the cover of the 9th edition book. THIS IS NOT THE 9TH EDITION. THIS IS THE 8th!! I unfortunately made this mistake.

Used this book for my English 235 (Technical Writing) class. It was very helpful and walked me through learning Power Point etc. I would get the newer edition because the on-line materials will apply.

This book is used in the writing course in SJSU. It fulfills with figures and details. There are lots of communicative techniques the reader can use effectively in practical ways.
Great book!

This is very good technical writing textbook. It provides all the information in a very easy understandable way. This book is a keeper. After studying this book, when you go to any websites/ or read books, you will automatically evaluate them, but in a good way!

I purchased this book for a class some time ago and misplaced it immediately after the class. I recently re-purchased the book and have found that it is incredibly helpful in my business dealings. As an image consultant it's important that my correspondence be professional, effective, and concise --in addition to other things-- and this book has been a great help.

Decent condition, but all pages were there and everything could be read easily. Some highlighting. Good price.
