Dobrin, et al a winner,
By
This review is from: Technical Communication in the Twenty-First Century (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
I recently redesigned my tech writing course from the ground up, looking at all the top TCOM texts. There are other very good choices, but I selected Dobrin and feel pleased with the decision. Students find the book readable, and some even claim to refrain from selling it at the end of the semester. The online resources are rich and useful. Students like the video cases, although they smile at the acting. I am a little disappointed that a new edition came out so soon, requiring me to completely revise schedules and syllabi when the only change seems to be addition of a single chapter.
Note that the negative reviews on this book are about shipping and vendors, not about the book itself.

Book was useful for the class, but instructor tended to base the class on lecture far more than the book. However, the book served its purpose.

I disliked this book so much I forgot to give it a review. Seriously. The writers of this book must have been paid by the word. I used this book for "Professional Research and Reporting" in 2009, that's right 2009 (like I said I forgot to review). The writers structured this book to talk over your head as if you were the village idiot. Even our instructor did not like the book, but the school selected it and he had to use it. Be prepared to be annoyed beyond measure. It would take the authors five sentences to say what could be said in one. They should make people in jail read this book for punishment!
