Comprehensive guide to technical diving,
By Anthony Co "meandtina" (VA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Technical Diving Handbook (Spiral-bound)
Gary Gentile takes an informal, even close to conversational approach in tackling technical diving. Pretty interesting chapter on tanks which is not found in other techncial diving books. A lot of colored photos and illustrations that prod you to read on ... If you're not yet into technical diving or considering to get into tek, this is the book for you.

A tek diver must!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Technical Diving Handbook (Spiral-bound)
As a new tek diver, I found this book very informative and written with a strong dose of common sense. It gives the reader a realistic view of what to expect in tek diving. I still refer to it often, especially the section on equipment and dive computers. With so much hype out there about tek diving, it's good to read a down to earth book about a very serious subject.

I liked the content of the book. I would love to find a book that is more current on dive computers though. It was very heavily slanted on the day to day issues of technical diving including eating and waste elimination. I would have liked a bit more on the technology and science of mixed gas diving. Overall it was a very enjoyable read.

The time has come when some divers want and need to know what advanced diving is all about. Mr. Gentile covers everything a diver needs to know about moving forward with his/her diving career. Many questions were answered without hounding the local dive shop about the questions. Read for pleasure was a great escape. I know Mr. Gentile has done a lot of diving on the Andrea Dora and it was kind of facinating reading about his view of technical diving. Thank you Mr. Gentile. Your book has a permanent place in my library.

Good Introduction to Tech Diving,

There's lots of good information here for those getting started in tech diving. DIR cultists will find a lot to object to because the author pays little heed to their religious beliefs.

Wisdom and insight in digestible chunks,

Gary Gentile has a wealth of experience in technical and wreck diving, that slides easily off the page with his easy laconic style of writing. Good advice laced with plenty of anecdotes and pragmatic tips. His style will no doubt irritate plenty, and this book will never be a complete substitute for a diving manual issued by a technical diving training organisation, but there is plenty of wit and wisdom both for technical divers, and for coventional sport divers who are looking to expand their knowledge of the sport without ploughing through opaque manuals.

EXPLAINS HOW TO GO TECH... THE RIGHT WAY.,
By Kevin Aquilina (Malta) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Technical Diving Handbook (Spiral-bound)
This book is a must for those who are looking foward to switch form recreational diving to technical diving and a usefull tool as quick referance for expierianced tech.divers. Topics are covered with photographic illustrations in practical situations which helps the reader to gain new practical techniques. It does'nt replace the proper training needed to any level, but it gives the reader an explanation from the practical point of view which is very important.

I've read some of Gary's other work and I've benifited from them all. This book really tells you how to rig your gear which is what you need to know, not theory or only one way being right. If you want to Tec dive or just want to know about it ,this book is for you.

Exteremely informative!,
By Alan Walker (Hamilton, ON Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Technical Diving Handbook (Spiral-bound)
I found this book to be very informative. The author discusses the various features of dive gear, but remains brand neutral, in fact, not a single preferred brand was mentioned in the book. Techniques for expedition diving and a thorough explaination of the different types of rebreathers were also covered. I've read the book several times and I learn something new everytime I pick it up.
