4.0 out of 5 stars It was better than my teacher., January 20, 2010

This review is from: Technical Mathematics (2nd Edition) (Hardcover)
My teacher was awful and never taught us anything. I taught myself everything for the tests with this book and did pretty well in the class. Not the best book I've used, but not the worst and it got me through the course.

1.0 out of 5 stars An awful textbook., December 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Technical Mathematics (2nd Edition) (Hardcover)
This textbook is THE worst textbook I have ever used (and I've used the first edition of Cisco CCNA books when they introduced the 3.0 Curriculum, and those three books were bad). I've used it for two classes in a technical college (Tech. Math 1A, which is basically algebra, and Tech. Math 1B which delves into trigonometry (and I did this as an Open Lab so no classroom)), and trying to use the book to help answer exercises in the book is a chore. For example, to figure out how to solve multiple vectors (meaning more than two, since the book is at least clear enough to help you figure out how to set problems involving two vectors only) in Chapter 11.6 and 11.7 REQUIRES you to look to 11.8 to find out how to set up the problem to solve it. Who let that slip by??? Why isn't that information given in 11.6 where it is needed, and is used again in 11.7 and 11.8 (thereby giving you more practice in using it to become more familiar with it)? How did something like that slip by the proofreaders and editors? It was bad enough that I had to go on YouTube (of all places) to find out how to go about solving for The Abiguous Case for The Law of Sines (working on problems for that on a weekend, so no teachers available to ask).
