This review is from: Technical Pro HT-S12 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System with 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer (Set of Six, Black) (Electronics)
I purchased this speaker system as a package deal with a Denon receiver. I have been disappointed in the aesthetics of these speakers, although the sound is adequate. The speakers are large, bulky (especially the center speaker!), and NOT mountable on the wall or pedestals. They also look cheap, and the wood on my subwoofer came damaged -- the paint was majorly "bubbled" on the top. In addition, the speakers arrived somewhat dirty, so I had to clean the dust off of them prior to installation. Finally, the "manual" was of little use, as it was small with very few details.

I received this product two weeks ago. The box was very thin and weak and could not protect the products. Two ugly stretch marks were found on one of the speakers. One speaker was like used becasue there were two drill holes on it. It was hard for me to return it because it will cause me a fortune.
Overall performemt was okay to the price.

Product arrived to my house and the sub didn't work. Contacted Amazon they sent a replacement which arrived damaged. The seller has no more. They won't replace just the sub. I now have to take down the speakers that do work off my walls. Packaging is terrible, no wonder both sets are damaged.

Edit: Downgrading to one star. Subwoofer has stopped working and it will cost nearly as much to ship and return under warranty as I paid. I have had this 5.1 system for six months. It was a big improvement over the television speakers. For the first few months I had the unit hooked up to my AVR with the included 24 (?) gauge wire. I finally ran some better wire through the ceiling and walls to hook up a more permanent installation. I used some 12 gauge plenum rated wire. I like to use banana plugs to ease the installation. These speakers couldn't handle the thickness of the banana plugs so I had to use bare wire to the posts. The 12 gauge barely fit. I really had to cram it in there. Which brings me to the build quality of these speakers. Every single speaker had one or more of the posts with the wire hole in such a direction that I couldn't easily (or at all) get the wire in the hole. Luckily, with a small Philips-head screw driver I was able to open up the connections and turn the holes to the proper direction. Every single speaker needed this treatment. I was also able to align one of the connection plates in the proper location by screwing new holes into the particle board enclosure (it arrived a tad askew which only affected the aesthetics and not the function). As an aside, the internal wiring is quite small gauge as well (24?) so how this affects the power draw is still under review. The four matching speakers (front and surrounds)are a bit large by today's standards for surround systems but the sound quality is decent. It was hard to figure out mounting options since these are essentially "bookshelf" speakers. I ended up going with some 12" x 12" shelves with the speakers mounted on their sides for the rear speakers (which causes them to overhang on certain corners to get the proper angle to the seating area). Not a clean look but functional. For the front speakers, I found some Sanus speakers stands (SANUS SYSTEMS BF-31B Wood Speaker Stands -- basically black paintd mdf -- garbage really) on Amazon that looked good in the pictures but difficult to assemble without splitting the mdf. These stands perch the fronts at the right listening height. Perhaps a temporary solution until I can develop a stronger stand. Again, since these are bookshelf style with no mounting hardware or screw locations the speakers have to be placed on top of something. The center channel is mounted under the television. I used some rubber door stops from HD that angle the center up towards the listener. That made a big difference in listening quality of dialogue. Summary: Better than television speakers, decent sound in my small room (18 X 15), build quality fair. Plus I think by the packaging and a few small scrapes on the speakers (Sharpee to the rescue) this item had been returned once or twice before I got it.

As noted by other reviewers, the aesthetics of this group were not good. Bubbled paint on 4 of 6 pieces. Two dents greater than 2"... < two inch dents? Must note the box it came in was NOT damaged and the foam was intact. These were damaged at the factory.
There are no 'front' speakers, only four identical bookshelf style units. 4" low-excursion drivers are duplicated in the twin center channel. These would be acceptable if not for a conspicuously under-powered or very badly crossed over dome tweeter that buzzes badly on each of the 5 places it is present in this system if you listen for it. That said, if you keep the volume 'sane' this filled our living room with a remarkable experience for the very low price I paid. For 3 months. Then, the sw-1201 woofer packaged with the set failed in a manner I can only describe as designed-in. See the review for that woofer if you care why it fails. Suffice it to say that even if you really, honestly, only have $135 to spend on a surround sound speaker kit... don't get this one, if only because the woofer amp will fail due to bad design.
