A discreet (whoever heard of it?) treasure,

I don't remember how I got to know of the existence of this dictionary, some two or three years ago. It's beyond me how this can be the work of a single person. So, I'll just go ahead and say it: anyone engaged in translation should --must-- buy it. It's shockingly easy to use, and if you get it and already have F. Beigbeder Atienza's Polytechnica Dictionary of Spanish and English Languages (second edition) and Javier L. Collazo's English-Spanish, Spanish-English Encyclopedic Dictionary of Technical Terms, you're all set. Just bear in mind one very simple fact: there is no perfect dictionary (but the three mentioned here pretty much come near being). Buy it. You won't regret it.

Good translation -- clunky software,

The program does not attempt to replicate a hard-copy dictionary, with explanations for the differing synonyms -- you have to know or have another source for these differences. However, this results in a very simple presentation of a lot of material; as far as I have tried it, it seems very reliable. However, a couple of simple modifications to the program would make it more user-friendly. On first entering the program, the search window is highlighted,so that you can write your word; however, after the first search, if one wants to enter a new target word, the window is not highlighted, so you have to delete letter by letter. Alternatively, if one wants to find out more about the translations presented, one cannot go to that window to click on that and be taken to a selected word.

That?s about it. I don?t know what technical dictionary doesn?t contain the terms "FMEA" or "preventative measures". The author(s) have not inluded a lot of technical terms that they must have considered superfluous, that would have been useful. Contexts are also rarely given. Much improvement to be made here.

I bought the dictionary in May this year 2005 and contrary to a previous review I find it excellent. I believe it contains many entries, it concentrates mainly on available words for the translation, and does not go that much into definitions, interpretations or specific applications of words. However, I have noticed that it has many words that other dictionaries do not include. With reference to a previous review, I opened the dictionary, selected randomly the word ema (unidad insignificante) with the translation of eme (insignificant unit). I went to the (in the previous review) recommended website for online translation, typed in the word EMA to be translated. The result was "We found no Spanish translation for 'ema'". Well, I think "better a short answer than no answer". I really recommend this dictionary.

I found the product dissappointing. Definitions were short. Multiple interpretations and usage examples were not given. Equal or better on line dictionaries are available for free. See wordreference.com

I haven't used this dictionary much. It has a little homemade look about it when it arrives, so presentation could be a little better, but you can save it on your computer, so you don't need an internet connection at least. That's a plus for me. It seems to have quite a few terms but the presentation is poor.
