By Peter F. Trotter (Deerfield, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Technician Class Element 2 FCC License Preparation (Paperback)
If you're trying to get your entry-level ham radio license, this is THE study guide for you! Gordon West has reorganized the questions into logical topic groups for easier learning. He also has highlighted key words in his explanations to help you remember the correct answer. The explanations are full of fun memory tricks that will help you remember the correct answers. He also has included more than 150 addresses of helpful websites where you can learn more about a specific ham topics, like space communications or repeater operations. A GREAT STUDY GUIDE!

This book is designed so that anyone can achieve success. It has the sample questions, the answers, and also an explanation for the answer. It Provides you with little side comments that can be useful to the ham operator. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in getting their license.

This book is just a copy of the question pool with a very brief description of the answers. If your goal is to learn about, and understand amateur radio then your money is probably better spent on "Now You're Talking!" if you just want to memorize the question pools instead you can do that online for free with practice tests.
If you are new you should really consider NYT instead so you not just pass the test, but understand the basic technology and rules behind amateur radio.

The pool of test questions changes on July 1, 2006. There is a new edition that will be out in May. Do NOT buy this edition of the book. It is an EXCELLENT resource, but get the latest edition!

Like others have mentioned the book has all the questions and answers for the Element 2 exam. True, the questions are available online at various websites, but what's missing from those websites are the explainations for the answers.
Gordon West teaches HAM Radio classes in Southern California. His knowledge and understanding of the subject flow through out the book. The questions for the exam are organized in a logical easy to follow format. At anytime if you are confused about the test, or a topic in the book, Gordon has his phone number listed so the reader can call and get clarification (and yes he answers his phone during the hours listed in book). I purchased the book directly from Gordon after taking the GROL exam. I read the book cover to cover and then aced the exam (your results may vary). I would suggest this book for anyone who is looking for a well written, easy to understand book on the Element 2 test for HAM Technician Class License. |
