5.0 out of 5 stars Captures Your Musical World
I saw a few DJs wearing these more and more as i toured clubs. I had to check these out after being a Sony fan for so long. These mainly caught my eye when I saw AvB wearing these at a gig, a guy who cares about the quality of sound.

With that being said I tested these out. I originally had the Sony v700 phones but was a little disappointed with the highs...

2.0 out of 5 stars Joints & Headbands Break!
I've owned two pairs of these. I agree with the other reviewer that they sound the best out of any DJ headphone that I've owned, but they are not durable. The headband and joints broke with both pairs within 6-8 months. I thought that I may have been hard on the first pair while using professionally, but the second failed after a few months of deliciate use...

5.0 out of 5 stars Captures Your Musical World, October 31, 2007

I saw a few DJs wearing these more and more as i toured clubs. I had to check these out after being a Sony fan for so long. These mainly caught my eye when I saw AvB wearing these at a gig, a guy who cares about the quality of sound.

With that being said I tested these out. I originally had the Sony v700 phones but was a little disappointed with the highs. The lows were great, maybe a little too much bass, but decent quality sound. When I finally got my hands on these I was stunned that they were far superior!! Everything about these is WOW! The more you turn these things up the better it gets. The highs are crisp as can be and the lows are as accurate as they should be. Side by side these shamed the Sony's! Other than the outstanding sound the build quality is just amazing. There is rubber around the cans to protect it from breaking, the cord comes off, which is replaceable, and the headband is ALL leather. Not fabric underneath like the Sony's. The chrome look on the side as well as the look of a Technic's turntable makes other phones look dull. These also come with a black leather carrying pouch that actually fits the headphones and some. The Sony's come with this weak pearl looking bag that's way too small for both the phones and the cord; my cord was getting tangled.

I guess the best way to describe these are True-To-Sound. When blending two tracks together you can get an honest preview of what the track will sound like when played to the crowd. No more bass being too high or too low.

So if you're looking for the ultimate headphones look no further. These things will be on your head forever.

Pros: Superior Sound, Sturdy, Style, Leather Caring Case, Detachable Cord.

Cons: ummmm still thinking.........

I'm into quality, and that's what you will get from these Technics headphones. I'm not a DJ, but I know these headphones work great for home listening. The volume can be turned up without any distortion at all. You may even want to record your mp3s at higher bitrates because you will be able to hear the difference between 128 and 256. The headphones are very well designed and comfortable. I find it hard to stop listening to them because I like them so much. The coiled cord stays out of the way. These headphones may be a little too bulky to wear walking down the street, but they are well worth their price. They also block out many ouside noises and other people in the room cannot hear the music you play at normal levels. This product will truly provide a new listening experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars tired of sony 700's, January 31, 2007
This review is from: Technics RP-DH1200 DJ Headphones (Electronics)
If you are tired of the flimsy, plastic, sony headphones, well you have other choices. For dj's who use their headphones often, the Technic/Panasonic RP-DH1200 is the answer. The sound quality is very comparable to the sony vj 700's, and arguably better (particularly in its bass response). But what makes these headphones a great deal is that the cord is replaceable and so are the chushion pads on the headphones. I will warn you though that the headphones are slightly more heavy on the head than the sony ones, but for me it hasn't been that noticeable to me. Anyways, good luck in your search.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expect the best from Technics., June 23, 2008

Like I say, expect the best from Technics and, of course, from this great set of headphones. As a home DJ, musician, and quality sound seeker, I did a vast amount of research before buying an over $100 set of cans. As many mention, the Sennheiser's and Sony's do sound very good. But that is just it...good. If you own a generic set of headphones you will be noticing the difference immediately. However, if you do know something about sound and music, and even if you don't and are just searching for an excellent-sound-providing set of headphones, search no more. The DH1200s are 1) made to last, 2) handcrafted beautifully, and 3) they will blow your mind away with the clear, crisp, precise, enhanced, and over the top, high quality sound.

I specialize myself in trance, house, and electro-house music, and results are simply what you hope to expect from a respectable brand as Technics. Club and Venue DJ's should definately "hook-up" with a pair of these. They're designed like a tank...durable. And even though they may be around one or two ounces heavier than the competition, everything pays off in the sound; nothing really significant. Plus, their comfort is also very decent. I'm sure your ears or head will mind them just a little bit after a long and continuous three to four hour use. But nothing a brief 5 minute break can't handle. This is definately not a con; all headphones, due to their made-to-keep-sound-inside design, will be like this. Also, the sound is kept and locked in amazingly. Once more, for venue and club DJ's this is a definate plus. Be sure to be mixing your beats with no problem at all while your crowd enjoys at the other end.

But if you're just a nice, good-hearted person (which I'm sure everyone here is =D) who's looking for a pair of headphones that can deliver an over the top sound for when listening to your Ipod (or any other MP3 player), watching movies late at night, enjoying your classical music library (Vivaldi, Bach, Rossini, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, they all sound AMAZING!), or just wanting to get on the audiophile groove, these are the headphones for you.

From enhanced, clear, and crisp bass, to high-end treble that, no matter how high you crank up the volume, won't create distortion. Be prepared to listen-in to details and instruments in songs that you never noticed before. An easy rating for this one... 5 out of 5.

The price is more than worth it. I would not actually mind if i had to pay more for these phones.

PD. I don't mind answering any other detailed questions. Be sure to do an extensive research before making such a valuable purchase, which happens when dealing with music equipment.

I loved these at first...awesome sound, super comfy, decent price and a name you can presumably trust. But just like other articulating headphones that I've bought, they're made out of plastic and they eventually crack. After that, the left side shorted out. Expect to get maybe 6 months out of these, tops.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Sound, Mediocre Craftmanship, November 26, 2007
This review is from: Technics RP-DH1200 DJ Headphones (Electronics)
I purchased a pair of these 2 years ago after giving up on Sony 700's ( I was going through the sony's every 12-18 months). I read good things about these Technics, so I bit. I broke the first pair in 3 months, returned (even though out of warranty, I fought w/Panasonic and won) and broke the new replacement 3 months later. The sound is better than Sony, but durability at the joint is not good in my opinion. If you're kinder and gentler than me, buy these.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Phones For The Money, November 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Technics RP-DH1200 DJ Headphones (Electronics)
I had the opportunity to use the headphones the day after I received them. The lounge I was spinnin' at Didnt have a large enough amp for me to use a seperate speaker for monitoring, so I had to rely on the phones to give me a true sound. No probs there. I struggled with some Sony MDR V150's at the same lounge the month before, this month I enjoyed my mix totally.
I read all the reviews prior to purchase and I saw how alot of people claimed these phones to be to heavy, I suppose if your used to using the headcandy style phones I could see it, But if you used any similar styles to these technics, I wouldnt be to worried.I know theres a larger driver in these phones than others, so youre gonna get a little weight in them. I've used the Sony MDRV700 phones in the past and was bummed after the hinge cracked after only a couple of years of moderate use(I stress moderate). I could have save $5 and bought some more, but I've seen my buddies using the technics and was really impressed.
The comfort of the phones are great,I moved the cups up to my temple/upper cheek area when I wasnt mixing, I didnt seem to have any discomfort, and I'd consider myself to have an average size head.
In closing, I'd say- If youve taken the time to shop online and stumbled across the fact that Amazon is offering quality products for a meer fraction of retail prices, then you should act now and be a Smart Shopper! You wont be disappointed! Sincerely-Mosaic

5.0 out of 5 stars This is it. I know from experiance., August 27, 2008
This review is from: Technics RP-DH1200 DJ Headphones (Electronics)
Every time I break a set of phones, I get a different brand and model to try new things out. That was until I got these. Now these will break, but keep in mind every swivel DJ phones in this range will break just the same in about a year or 2 depenindg how to treat them. You should always have a warrenty for phones anyways so the durability shouldnt even be an issue. THEY ALL BREAK. First off, a huge advantage to these is the comfort. Not only are they the most comfortable dj phones in this range, but unlike some others, they are completely closed ear. The sound quality is fantastic. Better than the denons or the pioneers. Sony 700's have better sound sure, but at the cost of the most uncomfortable DJ phones I ever had. They are a bit heavy, not too big of a deal. They are bulky but the styling is decent too. Did I mention, unlike the pioneers and denons, they also come equipped with a detachable plug and the quarter inch at the end has a 90 degree arm on it so the cord wont get in the way on most mixers. listen, your not going to go wrong on pioneer hdj1000, sony 700 or even the newer denons in this range. But these Technics have a slight edge over the swivel phones at this price range. You want something better than Technic dh1200? be prepared to spend at least 300.
