These are decent for secondary use (in the bedroom etc). I own them, bought at a local store. They lack some clarity, but are exceptional at this price, in my opinion. (I paid more of course because I did not buy them at Amazon).

I've had many set of more costly speakers but none come close to these outstanding Techics SB-LX30 speakers which I believe are made by Panasonic. I also have a set of the smaller SB-LX10 which while providing exceptional accuracy can't produce the bass response you want for one of Bach's organ works, Toccata & Fugue in D Minor, for example. One outstanding CD that makes these speakers shine is Heartland (Sony label) with Edgar Meyer on Bass, Joshua Bell on Fiddle, Yo-Yo Ma Cello, Mark O'Connor. Top Shelf performers. Back to the speakers. You will have a hard time finding them. They were deservedly rated best buys in Consumer's Report. They kick ... so much that I can't understand why folks would entertain spending [more] on some other pair of speakers that has less accuracy and bass response. I also wonder if they will take the market away from the company's higher-end speakers? If you can lay your hands on a pair, you won't be disappointed.

These speakers are outstanding. They sound great and were rated as a Consumer Reports best buy. They have excellent base handling and a nice smooth response over the other frequencies. Probably the best speakers you can get at this price.

This is the first set of floorstanding component speakers I have owned, and they are excellent. I doubt I could have found a better pair of similar speakers for twice the price I paid. The rich and powerful bass response is particularly notable and does not distort even at high volumes. Treble is also clear and accurate. If I had to make a complaint about the speakers, it would be that the lack of a dedicated midrange speaker in the cabinet seems to cause a slight deficiency in that range of the spectrum, mostly at high volumes. But this is only a minor quibble and does not detract from the high overall sound quality, good build quality, and low price of these speakers. Unfortunately, I doubt these are sold anywhere anymore, but hopefully an adequate replacement model exists.
