My old Technics turn table is plugged in to the AUX input, but I have very low volume. Do I need to replace my turntable and buy one with a preamp?

Yes, the turntable most likely has a magnetic cartridge that requires a pre-amp. Don't have access to my surround sound till the weekend to try it myself. Will write more on the weekend.

The aux imput in a line level input and a turntable needs a low level input like a microphone. You may be able to find a preamp at Radio Shack that will convert the turntable into a line level input
