Book Description

This work's self-teaching programmed format aims to help teach students how to conduct a neurologic examination, review the anatomy and physiology for interpreting it, and show which laboratory tests help to clarify the clinical problem. Updated to reflect the impact of new imaging modalities such as CT and MRI on neurological diagnosis, it is designed to represent the situations physicians are likely to encounter in practice and rehearses responses they will need to make.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

UNIQUE, “LEARN AT YOUR OWN PACE” FORMAT – TEACHING THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS AND CLINICIANS SINCE 1969.

“Without question the best book available on the neurologic examination.”
--Four Stars from Doody*

“Excellent. The information is detailed, pertinent, and excellently arranged. What is surprising is the incredibly complete, interesting, and worthwhile information it contains. The author is obviously an excellent clinician and teacher who has taught many years. One can easily detect that [DeMyer’s] book contains the distilled best of his teaching experiences.”
--Archive of Internal Medicine*

“The book presents much more information than the title suggests; it has excellent parts on neuroanatomy and clinical neurosciences.”
--Four Stars (Excellent) from Mayo Clinic Proceedings*

5.0 out of 5 stars DeMeyer text is essential for neurologists in training, August 22, 2000

This review is from: Technique of the Neurologic Examination: A Programmed Text (Paperback)
This programmed text is very educational. It combines historical perspective with clinical illustrations. If you've ever wondered the correct way to elicit a Romberg or how to interpret it (or any other exam technique) this is the book you need. Highly recommend it as a programmed exercise and as a reference. I used it as a workbook during my internship so that when I started Neurology residency, I had completed and reviewed the text.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE NEUROLOGICAL EXAMINATION IS THE FOUNDATION OF NEUROLOGY, January 22, 2005
RECOMMEND STRONGLY. YOUR NEURO EXAM HAS TO BE FLAWLESS AND THIS BOOK HELPS YOU DO THAT. ONCE YOU GET THAT STRAIGHTENED OUT THE NEXT THING IS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THAT INFO THAT YOU GOT OUT OF THE NEURO EXAM. FOR THIS I WOULD RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING:OTHER USEFUL BOOKS / SOFTWARE THAT I FOUND INCLUDE THE SOFTWARE NEUROLOGY TUTOR 1.01 WHICH I DOWNLOADED FROM www.peakdoctor.org AND ADAMS AND VICTOR (which you can find on www.amazon.com)

5.0 out of 5 stars The useful, logical and problem-oriented neurological examination., May 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is not an encyclopedia (Most of us don't need encyclopedias) but this book contains almost all you need to know to make an appropiate physical neurological evaluation.
The way it is written is unique: I have never seen a photo of the author, but I feel that he guides me!
This is the best textbook for learning without the presence of a teacher.
More than five stars!!!
