About the Author

One of Britain's leading excavators, Philip Barker is now an archaeological consultant, having retired as Reader in Archaeology at the University of Birmingham. He has directed many excavations, including the long-term ones at the Roman city of Wroxeter and the timber castle at Hen Domen.
