5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and Challenging, May 2, 2011
This review is from: The Techniques of Basketry (Paperback)
This book explains the techniques of basketry, starting with round reed and twining, finishing with flat reed and plaiting. It explains them more in a historical perspective than in a how-to manner, though the illustrations of how to twine are very good and easy to comprehend. The title of the book implies a kind of step-by-step or how-to book, but this isn't a how-to book, it's a beautiful look at and explanation of basket weaving, and it includes many woven forms that are purely decorative rather than functional. This is for advanced weavers -- though it's fun to look at even if you're a beginning weaver, or somebody simply interested in baskets.
