Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

There are all sorts of shortcuts and techniques that will make clothes fashioning simple, say the editors of Threads magazine. If grades in Home Ec 101 threatened entrance into college, choose another craft. But for those adept with machines, needles, and thread, these 17 articles compiled from past issues provide some unusual yet casual designs and ideas to copy. Leather piping and sequins embellish a vest, and leftover material is transformed into rather elegant jackets. There are tips and patterns for working with unusual fabrics, such as spandex blends, knit yardage, and melton. Technical how-tos are also covered in careful detail for such aspects as pleats for straight skirts, zip-out linings for outerwear, and flat-fell seams. Barbara Jacobs

4.0 out of 5 stars Packed with clever tricks for sewers, July 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Techniques for Casual Clothes from Threads (Threads On) (Paperback)
This book is a collection of articles from past issues of Threads magazine but that is a good thing because Threads articles are always packed with information, good tips, excellent diagrams and photography and I always feel as though I just learned something. In this book there are a variety of projects all of which offer sewers the opportunity to expand skills, be more creative, and learn. One article shows ways to make unique, designer-looking vests using piecing techniques, applique and trim. Another shows techniques for creating reversible jackets including how to select fabrics and techniques for invisible finishes.

Probably my favorite article includes information and instructions for making clever closures, tabs, loops, etc. that can make a plain shirt or jacket look like an expensive boutique treasure.

I have quite a collection of these Threads books but this one is the one I use most often.
