5.0 out of 5 stars If you really want to learn, this is the book for you!, January 17, 2002
I teach crime scene techniques to police officers and this book is a mainstay for that instruction. This is the first text book a new CSI should read. If you are an old hand in crime scene you will still learn from Barry Fisher. This is not an old dry text book. Each chapter has real cases for reference. I found the book to be very interesting and it is required reading for all new CSIs in my agency (Tarrant Co. Sheriff's Office, Ft. Worth Texas). This is also one of the required reading texts for the level one crime scene certification examination of the International Association for Identification.

4.0 out of 5 stars Second Best Investigation Book, May 8, 1999
By A Customer
I don't know why anyone would buy this book. Not that it's a bad book, it's pretty good, but there's a better book for the money. I had to read this book to take my department's detective exam. A few years later I had to read "Criminal Investigation" (Swanson) to take the Sergeant's exam. "Criminal Investigation" is far and away the better book. Three times bigger, more topics, more techniques, more illustrations, more up to date by two years, and eight dollars cheaper. Fisher better hope that police departments keep making his book required reading, or no one will have a reason to buy it. Sorry, Barry!

I was an officer in the field for 11 years, I could not velieve the things I missed over the years. I am starting a new career so I ordered the material and loved the book. I am currently working on my certification for CST and recommend this book even to the field officer.

For all of those who are interested in either becoming Crime Scene Investigators, or increasing their knowledge THIS is the ULTIMATE book to get. It's the leading textbook, handbook, bible, guide, whatever word you wish to use and the author "Barry Fisher" has a way with words that leaves you with no doubt about his knowledge and experience. It's one of those books that I couldn't put down and can learn from and remember what I'm reading. An EXCELLENT study guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best, June 19, 2006
This review is from: Techniques of Crime Scene Investigation, Seventh Edition (Hardcover)
Fisher provides the absolute, hands-down best text out there for basic crime scene work. This is the one that is in everyone's bookshelf - we even keep all our old editions! When I began working in crime scene investigations, this was my 'go-to' reference, and several years later, I still read through it every once in a while to keep fresh. I teach part time, and this was the book my co-instructor and I suggested that we use for our basic and advanced crime scene classes - thank goodness it's our new text! I can't wait to share Fisher with our students. Invaluable book.

By A Customer
This is THE authorotative text on crime scene investigation. A must have for crime scene investigators, forensic scientists, and even lawyers. The actual cases chosen as examples are fascinating. This book is also great for mystery writers who want to learn the technical jargon in the field of criminalistics.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE definitive crime scene investigation text, December 15, 1997
By A Customer
THE most definitive, authoritative, and comprehensive text on crime scene investigation written by a man who has seen nearly every high profile case in the last 20 years. Any investigator, forensic tech, ID tech, etc. would find it useful. Info in this book allowed me to make cases and gather evidence that I couldn't get before. A must read if you are challenging the IAI Crime Scene Technician examination. If you are in the ID business, BUY THIS BOOK!!
