Chapters about the Geomancy are better than Kraig's book. The training methods on the astral travel are quite interesting. Otherwise I suggest to buy Kraig's book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Classic for Beginners, September 10, 2000
"Techniques of High Magic - A Handbook of Divination, Alchemy, and the Evocation of Spirits" has been around for a quarter of a century placing it in the category of a 'classic' in its own time. In an increasingly fickle market where many beginners books come and go, "Techniques of High Magic" has managed to hold its own. While the authors present little material that is original, most of it coming from the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, they do organize it in an easy to understand, orderly, and usable manner. The shortened rituals they present for the consecration of the four principle Elemental Tools alone is worth the price. Chapters on astral projection, divination, the tarot, and evocation round out the text.

4.0 out of 5 stars My view on this book., October 26, 2001
By A Customer
Well...I think it borrows alittle too much from the Golden Dawn traditions, and the consecrating your elemental weapons section is alittle too Judeo-Christian centered for my tastes. However I must say that it still remains one of the classic texts, and a fairly decent introduction for those wishing to practice magic. The tarot and divination sections are excellant, which is primarily why I rate this as high as I do. If you simply wish to be a ritual magician and don't care about differing traditions then go ahead and buy the book. I would suggest however the purchase of additional books, and possibly look up information on the web, to round out the studys.

4.0 out of 5 stars An all-in-one magick book, July 9, 2011

This is a must have book for the practicing magician. It is very simple and to the point. It lacks nothing. But Some of the pronounciations are not correct. Example: Yod Nun Resh Yod, should not be pronouced as spelt. And Daat should not be pronounced as Da-art.However; this book gives the best info on why to do the rituals and their purposes. The illustrations and references are very helpful. If you need a first book on magick or to add to your collection of info, this is your book.

3.0 out of 5 stars UUUMMMM, what do I say, October 31, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Will UUMM it is just what I have to say. Because the book was ok. There is some things I found that I did not like , there is no Alchemy in it, not even inner Alchemy even though the book say it has Alchemy! There is better books out there such as Modern Magick. But It does give some good deteils on divination and a easier way of consecrating magical tools. But one thing I am getting sick of seeing is the rehash of Golden Dawn Material and it many millions of versions of its rituals. I wish that there can be some better original material out there. but other then that If you can find the book under 5. bucks then get it until then do not waste your time.

4.0 out of 5 stars very good, but..., August 10, 2006
Very good, but... if your more of an advance high mage than this book is not for you. The book contains very much of everything for the neophyte magickian however, it is not the most profounded in my opinion, and as nice selections such as beginners divination, tarot, geomany ("my favorite"), pentagram and middle piliar excersises, pretty much sell it's own. I would still chaeck out Mystria Magicka by: steven phillips.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother., May 31, 2010
By
Robert J Walker was right. This book is "OK" for beginners but there are other books out there which are better. Everything written in this book is just regurgitated information from other and much more intellectual sources.
