Simply The Standard By Which All Others Are Measured...,
By Michael Beltz, FCI "truthsleuthpi" (Orlando, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Techniques of Legal Investigation (Hardcover)
As a licensed private investigator and college instructor of private investigation courses, I can personally attest that the late Anthony M. Golec's work "Techniques Of Legal Investigation" is the standard by which all legal (civil) investigation texts are measured. The information in this text is absolutely timeless. If you can find it - but it!
This is simply the most informative and educational text of its kind. Even though civil litigation has evolved tremendously since the original publication of this text (1st Edition published in 1976), this work is only in its 3rd Edition! This is definitive evidence that this text is timeless! The detailed and systematic approach that is given to each topic assists the reader greatly in clearly comprehending and understanding the issue in question. While it isn't a fun read (most informative books aren't), "Techniques Of Legal Investigation" is unbelievably educational and is, simply, the best of the best! If you are interested in other texts regarding legal (civil) investigations, I would highly recommend (emphasis added) both "Complex Legal Investigations: The Ultimate Guide For Conducting Better Personal Injury Investigations" by James W. Harbert CLI, FCI (ISBN: 1891247557) and "Successful Personal Injury Investigation" by Francis D. "Frank" Ritter, CLI, CII (ISBN: 0970635109). With all three (3) of the aforementioned texts, your legal (civil) investigations library will be complete. As always, check with your local library or bookstore to see if you can read/review this or any title before deciding to make a purchase. This method has effectively allowed me to make the most of my investigative library budget. I hope you found this review helpful. [...]

This review is from: Techniques of Legal Investigation (Hardcover)
A heavy tome of over 500 pages, printed on thick glossy paper, that gives a thorough overview of twenty topics pertaining to Legal Investigations. From General Investigative Techniques and Interviews to Employment and Vehicle accident investigations, this book covers it all. The only problem is that it is terribly outdated. The case law is old, the photos are old, the techniques are dated. It's like working in the Squad with the Old Guy who just can't retire and be with his family. At almost every page you will find yourself asking if the information still holds up. Are you willing to take the risk and rely on the "Safety Appliance Acts" of 1893 when investigating railroad engines and cars? And aside from a small cadre of Railroad Police, who still investigates railroad box car crime anyway? And if you did, how would you know the information hasn't been updated since this book was last published? There is a lot of information in this book. I mean tons. Some of it is good, but most of the more useful stuff can be found elsewhere.
