I purchased this Technivorm coffee maker (the silver version) about three months ago after poor experience with KitchenAid pro-series units (which are no longer offered). Researching coffee makers on-line led to several reviews where this product was praised for brewing coffee at the correct temperature, in accordance with certification standards of some sort, and lots of other gushing about how great it is. I just wanted a good quality, reliable machine to brew good coffee, and I don't want to have to replace it every 2 years.

The coffee quality is excellent and I suppose that has something to do with the temperature of the water, which is stated to be just under boiling (200 degrees F). The lid of the coffee pot incorporates a hollow mixing tube that is intended to ensure that the coffee mixes as it drips into the pot, to avoid stratification. it brews almost silently and is very quick. This all works perfectly and without any fuss whatsoever.

It is not a fancy coffee maker; it is somewhat industrial in appearance, has no timer, just the on-off switch and a separate switch to control the plate that keeps the pot heated once brewing is complete. One of the reviews that I read says that the styling has not changed since it was introduced in the 1960's. That appeals to me. It just does what is necessary, and my desire is that when the time comes to make repairs, it will be possible to get replacement parts and keep it in service. I am hopeful that the simplicity of the unit will mean that it will be reliable over time.

You should be aware that this machine is designed for Europe and does brew less than typical U.S. built coffee makers. It will brew 10 "European" cups, or 40 ounces of coffee. A U.S.

I love coffee. When my husband recently informed me that my coffee making sucked, I was crushed. I agreed our coffee at home was not very good but I was perplexed as what to do to improve it. We alreaed used filtered water and fresh ground beans. So I purchaed a french press. While the taste of the coffee improved dramatically, my husband was a fan of the occasional grinds in his coffee and I was not a fan of the messiness and the huge daily ritual for such a small amount of coffee.
Back to the drawing board. After research on several trusted foodie sites, I learned the Technivorm was one of the few non commercial coffee makers that achieved the correct brewing temperature. I bit the bullet over the price, the Technivorm does carry a hefty price, and purchased the Moccamaster KB-741. We have been very happy with the taste of the coffee for the month that we have owned the Moccamaster. The coffee maker is very simplistic in design and I believe that a large part of the reason the coffee is so good. Well worth the price.

This brews excellent coffee and I like that the components are copper, not aluminum. However, the carafe is brittle. The top chips easily. I have gone through 4 and need a new one again. I spent 300 on my coffee maker and 25 per carafe. Disappointing.

Exellent (the best?) drip coffee maker I've ever used: simple design makes for easy brewing set up, and the longer I use it, the more features I discover. The cutout in the reservoir lid allows the drip bar to swivel, so you can move it out of the way enough to drop your filter into the filter basket, but it's also handy for wetting the grounds evenly at first while rotating the filter basket, so you can "play pour-over" with it. The valve on the filter basket actually stops the flow if you want to pull the carafe early to pour a cup, and it also helps to make a stronger (better?) cup by letting the basket fill part way before letting the coffee drain into the carafe. Elegant design does more with fewer parts, and the Moccamaster is truly elegant in this regard.

A few reviews have mentioned quality issues, but I think those are misguided. One reviewer mentions "cheap parts," but this isn't a toy or sporting equipment-- don't abuse it and it will be fine. Same with the "terrible carafe" criticism: I've had no problem with my original carafe; actually I've knocked it hard a few times and am surprised that it didn't break. Expensive doesn't mean indestructible: you're paying for a great coffee brewer and reliable, proven design.

I got this technivorm for a bday present a month ago I always wanted one but it cost too much for me to buy it I have had a lot of coffee makers over the years and the kb741 is the best one I have had I presently have the technivorm and a Russell hobbs cm7000s which is a good coffee maker too but I think the technivorm makes a smoother and richer cup of coffee its because of the switch you use for under 5 cups which is what I make for my 2 big cups of coffee in the morning I highly recommend this even though it has a high price I found you get what you pay for but in my case you get what you are giving

We have gone through many coffemakers and I don't know how or why, but this machine makes by far the best coffee. It does not have any bells or whistles like timers, etc., just makes a great cup of coffee. It is expensive, but has great build quality and hopefully will outlast several regular coffemakersl.
