5.0 out of 5 stars A mind-bending, soul-searching, international romp, January 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Techno-Pagan Octopus Messiah (Paperback)
Romance, drugs, sex, sure... but what really makes this book a read is the adventure.

Is it a novel, a spiritual coming-of-age, a travelogue? Hard to know what shelf to find it on. Perhaps it's
described best as a do-it-yourself guide to wide-eyed, slurp-it-up, grab-with-both-fists living: with the
author's own experience teaching by example.

If you've seen Winn perform his poetry slam act, you'll have had a glimpse of the energy that animates him -
in this book you get to see how that energy takes him through Egypt and India, surfing on the energy waves of
pink-mohawked cultural terrorists, shifty Mohammads, psychic saddhus, frustratingly luscious francaiskas,
glassy-eyed Rajneeshians, and straw-twisting donkey johns. Not a dull page in the book.

I won't give away the end except to say that the author gives every indication that his adventures are just
beginning, and so I'm happy to guess that we'll have another adventure of the Octopus Messiah to enjoy
before too long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Day 'On the Road' for Today's Man, March 28, 2000
This review is from: The Techno-Pagan Octopus Messiah (Paperback)
Ian Winn is the techno pagan octopus messiah! In his tale of his travels through Egypt and the Far East, you feel his pain and joy and then you look at your own existence and dream of escaping from the box we call life. It's a dream tale, with visions, artifacts and a slew of interesting journeymen who crop up to help our narrator find his way (whether indirectly or directly). You also receive some interesting tips on how to save money by traveling immediately after an international crisis. But let Ian tell his story, sit back and strap in for the ride you will not be disappointed and will definitely enjoy passing this to those you consider worthy of reading a piece of art.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it, loved it, loved it!, June 16, 2000

This review is from: The Techno-Pagan Octopus Messiah (Paperback)
Never having been a student backpacker, or even any kind of user (20 Silk Cut and copious amounts of beer being enough for me); the journey I have just been taken on enlightened me, taught me and made me laugh. A great "I want more" ending. Read it and you'll start to think in rhyme.
