Review
For those interested in any and all facets of the current state of energy technology and energy efficiency, look no further; this collection of oversized volumes covers the subject impressively in highly readable fashion. It will be easily comprehended by readers at all levels, and yet remain highly respected and useful to professionals and general practitioners in the energy field. Though the price may seem impressive, the information collected and presented here has no peer--either in terms of completeness of detail or clarity of presentation. The illustrations are wonderfully drawn and add to, or explain, the text beautifully. And though there are multiple authors and contributors (different groups for each of the five volumes), the editors have managed to draw this immense amount of information into a seamless and highly understandable work. The entire undertaking is so well prepared that neophytes, students at all levels, and energy experts will find valuable information, clearly presented. In addition, numerous references are provided so that readers can have more detailed information if desired. In sum, there is no truly comparable work in this area, and it is doubly impressive that such a singular work is so outstandingly excellent. Perhaps that is to be expected, for this compendium was prepared in association with the Rocky Mountain Institute, headed by Amory Lovins, an outstanding expert and highly articulate expositor on energy technology. A CD-ROM is provided so that readers can readily research and retrieve data via computer. Truly a must have for any good library. All levels. - L. Crane, formerly University of Maryland --
