Many of you are having image quality issues so be sure to use the focus ring on the front of the camera. This camera is not auto-focus. Also, update your drivers to version 6.2.9200.10258 first before you leave any bad reviews. See my 4/24/2014 update below on where to get the new drivers. It makes a *world* of difference to use the newer drivers. That being said, it's hard to find a decent webcam these days even though there are gobs and gobs of them that purport this or that resolution over USB 2.0. USB 2.0 has a theoretical bandwidth of 480Mbps so unless there's *major* hardware/software compression involved, you're not going to hit full HD at that bandwidth. You really need USB 3.0 for that. I was skeptical about this cam and a company whom I'd never heard of. I'd always been a Logitech fan but their quality has gone down the tubes many years ago. I have to say I am very impressed with this cam. 12 megapixel for $17.99 shipped to my door from the UK, you can't beat it. Tecknet has a website tecknetonline dot co dot uk for support but they haven't posted newer drivers or firmware for this cam.

It took around 9 days from the time I received an Amazon shipping notice for it to reach my mailbox. I consider that fast. I plugged it into my machine (Asus A8N-SLI, 2GB RAM, Athlon 64 X2 3800) running Windows 7 64-bit SP1 and Windows found it with *no* drivers required. However, I'm a 23-year IT veteran and the generic OS drivers aren't good enough for me or you so don't use them. After much research I found out this cam uses a Realtek chipset (dubbed REALTEK USB2.0 UVC, the specific chipset I do not yet know but I am guessing at either RTS5822 or RTS5821).

I bought two of these for less than I would have had to pay for one of the other alleged HD (well at least 720P) Webcams out there. I even investigated refurbished models from Logitech and Microsoft that were more than double the price of one of these cameras. I knew it was a gamble that these might not be what I was looking for or that, as with many products pouring out of China these days, the specs might be a complete lie.
Imagine my surprise then when these turned out to be exactly what I need for the purpose I had in mind.
I was looking for some USB webcams to use as barcode and QR code scanners for a few tablets and notebook computers I have. And the problem I was having with the built-in cameras on this type of device (tablets and notebooks and even a laptop) was that their built-in cameras, front or back, couldn't focus closely enough to read most bar codes, although I was partly successful reading QR codes (the square codes you see often on magazine articles or advertisements) depending on how large they were printed - the larger the better since that meant I could hold them far enough away from the built-in cameras to still be in-focus.
So the first test I conducted when I got these cameras was to try to scan barcodes and QR codes. And lo and behold, as I played around with the cameras I discovered that they had a manual focus ring that you could set to focus as close as two inches or perhaps less - something I couldn't get the 2 logitech 1080p webcams and one Microsoft 1080p webcams to do. So now I had what I really needed - the ability to scan close objects in focus and in a totally controllable way unlike the autofocus feature one of my webcams has which seems to spend more time trying to find focus than taking pictures.

the package arrived ON THE DAY it was projected to arrive.

it worked on my windows 8.1 laptop without needing the drivers cd (which is included).

the picture is crisp/clear. much better than other $40 webcams i've previously purchased.

as soon as you take it out of the package, the cam feels sturdy in your hand. it is NOT a light, cheap plastic build.

adjusting the focus is easy. the lens ring adjusts with the perfect amount of resistance and does NOT feel cheap or as if it might break if you mishandled it on accident.

i am planning on buying as many of these as i can. now that this model (1080p) is available to US amazon customers, i suspect the price will go up as the demand increases. i am confident the demand will increase because... as i said in the title, you can't find a better webcam for $20.

the word will get out about this cam. 4 of my friends have already ordered one each after seeing snapshots from this webcam that i emailed to them.

the only reason i didn't give 5 stars is because i think they can improve the microphone. it's not terrible, but it's far from a great mic.

download manycam free webcam software to be able to use the video feed from this webcam while using an alternate microphone. it's easy breezy. i use an external usb condenser mic in conjunction with this cam, so the mediocre internal mic in the webcam is not an issue for me at all... but it might be for some.

This webcam is advertised as a Windows ready webcam, thus it made me wary of ordering it. However I just got it, plugged it in and it plays just fine on my macbook pro with no drivers required! The picture is ok for the price. There is a slight lag, but thats to be expected from a usb 2.0 port. Overall great camera for the price. Oh and I love the design!
