Don't know how to sew have made 8 great bears from it.,

It's as though she knows me, I can even hear her british accent as I read this book. Well done Margaret and I'm naming my next bear after you. True the sources are gafunked, but with some ingenuity, and using some of her buzz words like "fur-fabric' and "glass eyes" I've been able to find a wealth of sources for all sorts of teddy bear making supplies. I use a needle and thread that's it. I have no sewing or arts & crafted skills (until now) I have made 8 great bears, each one improvement over the last. I don't own a sewing machine and because of her I have learned to design, embroider, joint simpy because she said to keep trying. Yes this book is old but the basics apply today. MUST HAVE for all new teddy bear makers and as Margaret says..."keep trying"

I purchased this book years ago and made bears for my children from the patterns and instructions given. Very beautiful and unique animals can be made by a person who already knows how to sew well. I had to search hardware stores and leather shops for the pieces and tools needed as some of the goods recommended in the book are either no longer available or are difficult to find. But an inventive person can find very servicable substitutes. I repurchased the book (had given the other to a relative) as it's the best around.

This review is from: Teddy Bears and How to Make Them (Paperback)
I love this book! I bought it years ago when I was in college. Recently, when asked for patterns for teddy bears, I immediately thought of this book and checked here to see if it was available. I'm glad to see it's still in print. This contains wonderful stories and histories about teddy bears as well all told in a delightful manner. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to learn how to make bears or a bit about thier history.
