Book Description

November 23, 1998
This colorful book makes a great gift for a favorite young skier! (ages 4-6) Written in easy verse and filled with whimsical images, it is both appealing and informative. Rick Sanger, a certified ski instructor, has created a book that parents can read to their young ones before a frozen flake ever hit their noses. It also makes a great souvenir for a beginning skier. Ski instructors universally applaud this book. It captures the fascination of kids through the images of skiing tigers, mice, giraffes, and even crabs! But in the ear-catching rhymes are important messages that tell what skiing is all about. Mike Iman, President of the Professional Ski Instructors of America has endorsed the book: A fun book! Outstanding for bringing the flavor of skiing and snow-boarding to children that are new to the winter environment. At the back of the book is a section especially for parents: Taking Kids Skiing: Hints for a Great Trip. Here, Rick describes the kind of preparation and equipment that will take the kinks out of a first ski adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get the book before you take the lessons!, March 5, 2002

This review is from: Do Teddy Bears Ski? (Hardcover)

This book is great! It's a must-have for anyone with small children who are learning to ski, or will soon be taking their first lesson. It's beautifully illustrated with animals. You'll find a tiger tearing it up, a shredding raccoon, mice in the moguls and a powder-hound giraffe.

The copy is short and sweet. It mixes in ski tips for the kids, such as, "Since the sun is so bright, and the snow is so white, egrets wear shades to protect their eye sight." Another page says, "To slow down, just make pizza, it's all you need know. The bigger the slice, the slower you go." The kids don't realize it, but they're learning something while reading it.

There's even something for Mom and Dad. In the back of the book is a list of ski tips on how to keep your kids safe on the slopes, and have fun during their lessons.

I have written about this book in my ski column called My Rockies!

This review is from: Do Teddy Bears Ski? (Hardcover)
This whimsical book beautifully introduces children (& adults) to the joy of learning to ski (& snowboard). Several different animals review the essentials for a successful day of fun riding on the snow. The words are simple, yet specific; complemented by stunning animal paintings and a cute story. Makes a wonderful gift for any youngster interested in skiing.
